As suggested I am starting a new thread from a previous post on the phone number thread for SL. Okay we finally have some answers regarding getting Olive's medical done while waiting to renew her passport.

Just a little flashback on what has been happening. Olive's name was misspelled on her BC so back in Dec 09 she started the process of correcting her BC. This was very important her to have her name spelled correctly before she came to the states and we got married. Never dreaming it would take until the end of May to get this completed but her name is now spelled correctly. She went to Angeles DFA to get her passport renewed (which expires Sept) and never got past the security guard, he told her she needed some sort of proof she was actually going to leave the country, such as an airline ticket. He stamped her application to return July 12. She then went to a travel agent she knows and booked a flight to the U.S. Returning to DFA she got to talk to personnel this time but still can not get her passport started until July 1. Before going back to DFA the second time she tried online and couldn't get an appt until August. We have now accepted the July 1 date to get her passport and will either receive it in 12 working days if they expedite or else it will be 20 working days.

Now for the medical....she finally was able to get a hold of St. Lukes and they will let her come in with her old passport. By the way the embassy will not make an appointment until she has her passport, so we are going to make the appointment after July 1 when we know which date she will have her renewed passport. We will also then know that she has passed her medical. She was told to bring her BC, current passport, money for payment, photos, etc. They will then hold her medical results until she has her renewed passport.

Yeah, thanks to the help of VJ'ers we were finally able to get results knowing what course would possibly work. We did contact our senators and the help they can give is once the petition is in the embassy hands if problems arise then. Have names and numbers to contact if there are any issues when we get to that point.

Olive is going to SL next week so would appreciate any prayers that anyone feels that they would like to make that her medical goes without any problems. It seems that we have had so many hoops to get through with her name correction on her BC and then the delay with her passport. She never expected the changes that the DFA has imposed to get her passport. She said before she was able to just walk in and get her passport started that very same day.

Thanks to those that have helped and been supportive of our journey thus far.

Justin & Olive

Hmmm...the idea that she needs her new passport before the Embassy will make an interview appointment seems strange to me because, when I made an interview appointment for my wife, they did not ask me anything about her passport's expiration date. I'm wondering if you can indeed make an interview appointment, have her go to the interview with the new passport, and give it to the consul officer during the interview. That way, the Embassy will have her new passport in which they will stamp her visa.

Who will hold her medical until she has her new passport...SLEC or the USEM? I'm thinking that the USEM will hold her medical.

Whew...you've had enough hoops for an entire NBA season...and nearly jumped through all of them! Hang in there. After the medical...it's all a breeze. We are pulling for you!

From what I understand SL will be holding her medical until she gets her renewed passport and I would imagine that she will then have to deliver the passport to SL before they will forward it on to the embassy for the interview. I called Embassy and talked to them about getting an appointment and I was asking about her passport name correction and needing to be renewed because of expiration in Sept and the person I talked with said to wait until she had her passport before making an appointment since we orginally were looking at her not getting into DFA until July 12. ON July 1 I will get an appointment which is Okay with me.

I do have another question regarding the interview...I am getting ahead now and told myself I was not going to do that after all the other delays but are interviews as much of a worry of not getting the VISA as the medical is a worry?

The interview is a breeze...five minutes maximum. I think they have their minds pretty much made up before the beneficiary walks in there. However, that's assuming that all of your papers are in order. We worried a lot more about the medical...the chance that my wife would have to undergo the two-month TB culture. Really, after the medical, the rest of the trip is on autopilot. However, that doesn't mean she won't worry!

Thanks...we just need to really get through June 14 & 15 and everyone will have one less stress factor. One step at a time...even though some steps have been baby steps... :)
