Maybe you could Honeymoon before the wedding then you can go where you want?

Would that be a prehoneymoon?

Well, now we're getting into the etymology of the word, aren't we? :star:

There isn't universal agreement on the roots of the term, but Webster reports that the word comes from "the idea that the first month of marriage is the sweetest", with "honey" obviously being a reference to something sweet, and "moon" being a reference to the monthly lunar cycle. The inference would be that after the first month it would all be downhill.

So, if you had the holiday prior to the wedding, would this mean that the sweetest part of the marriage were over before you said "I do"? I've known some couples where this was undoubtedly true.

This would also bring up a quandary for a traditional couple. If they have the honeymoon before the marriage, do they still save "it" for the wedding night? If so, what do they do for entertainment on the honeymoon?

Well, if I really wanted to be rude about it I would have said her fiance was acting like a spoiled brat, and throwing a tantrum over a requirement they should have known about before they submitted the petition. He seems to feel he's being treated unfairly, and I wanted to remind him that he will be treated far more fairly than many others who are also waiting for a visa, for no other reason than the country he happens to come from. He should be grateful that his visa journey will likely be relatively painless. In that light, I think the comparison is a fair one to make.

Remember when your mom used to say "You should be thankful you HAVE spinach and cauliflower. There are kids starving in China!"

Hmmm. I see what you are saying.

Looks like, once again, the problem is Julian's reaction.

And I didn't think you were being rude. You were too polite in the way you said it.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

To be honest, if you read the posts he made whining about his fiancée buying the wrong car (Oh Gnoz! She bought a used Porsche instead of new Benz because her 90s Nissan was just too gauche to be seen in! The least she could have done is buy a NEW Porsche for a few grand more!), this seems to be par for course.

But I just want to second that bolded portion. He's from the UK. For the most part, he can enter and leave the US at will (with minimal restrictions) under the VWP. He's not required to get a B2 to visit the country. Many of us have SOs who could not meet our families until after the immigration process was more or less complete because tourist visas have such a high standard to be granted that either they didn't bother to try, or like us, applied and was denied. That he's from the UK means unless they completely screw up their financials by him moving all sorts of money to her name if she's not got sufficient means to sponsor him or starts bagging on her in front of the CO, he's almost certainly going to be approved without much question (unlike, say, Starlight95, who was in AP for what, a year, or the woman who was 5 people in front of my fiancé at the interview and ran out the door crying after her interview because she was denied). Hell, he could probably even get away with coming on the VWP, get married, go on his damn non-US honeymoon, return, and THEN file for the I-130+AOS because he IS British. (And while it's technically visa fraud, I know a ton of people not on VJ who have done so. Some of them didn't realize that that wasn't how you were supposed to do it, some of them did but figured as long as they were honest with CBP and anyone else, it was all good.) He has the opportunity to come here, meet her family, see where he's been living, something that he probably takes for granted and doesn't even think about.

Wow, so much hating on the UK today! Granted, Julian's a tool, but Melissa asked an innocent if ignorant question. Maybe it's because I've actually met her, but I think people have been a little harsh on her here. Her situation may be "easy" immigration-wise but we all face our own, different, and sometimes very scary demons that come in different forms than USCIS/DOS.

You didn't consider all the advantages and disadvantages of the visas did you? Someone told you the K-1 was faster and you went for that.

I can't really tell by your photo if you are the mail order purchaser or the purchasee, but I'll just flip a coin and go with 'Alla' since cross-dressing is probably a USCIS no-no. So with that resolved, Alla, thank you but we did 'consider all the advantages and disadvantages of the visas.'

Oh please do get a new tune, won't you? Show some originality at least, this one's been sung to death.

Julian, that was Gary who addressed you.

And while I found the opening of his post to you to be quite rude, yours is equal shite.

Once again, you are not going to get help from people here (which is what SOME were trying to do) if you continue with your bombastic stance.

Learn some humility, Julian. Really. You are moving to America. A lot of the men here don't do well with condescension. I have a feeling that if you don't learn to modify your behavior, some good old boy will modify it for you against a brick wall.

Just a question: What's wrong with honeymooning in the US? There are so many gorgeous places in the country, and there are many people who would absolutely LOVE to honeymoon in the US. And you guys would have a great opportunity to tour the vast country... so take it! Research tourist places there, or ask around. Besides, it's really not so much WHERE you go for your honeymoon, but it's about with WHOM you go on your honeymoon. Some newlyweds could go to another state or province in their country (no matter which one, even Iraq - based on stories I've read) and be very happy, because all they care about is their new husband/wife. :)

[Edited to add some stuff.]

I'm sure the typical trouble-makers will have all sorts of fun with this, but honestly there's nothing much about the US that interests me as a holiday destination. Your Florida is full of fat tourists and loud snotty children, many of whom are from my own country, not to mention the now-polluted ocean. Hawaii is an over-priced tourist trap and full of drug dealers. Even the islands are nothing but tourist traps these days, the interior is too hot, and the North is a bit close to Canada for my tastes, no offense. I am told there are some nice areas in California, such as Catalina, but since I'll be living nearby anyway it hardly makes for a memorable honeymoon. Yes I'm sure there are some lovely places in your country, but I don't care to deal with the travails that one must endure to enjoy them.

Ah yes, the American answer to every problem.

Oh gosh, I knew this thread would turn into another episode of The Chronicles of the Melissa and Julian. And here I thought we'd been quite tame in answering her question and leaving all the drama out of it.

I hate to be so "pedestrian" but...

Have you been to these places, Julian?

The US is a pretty big place with quite a lot of coastline. Not all of it is touristy. If beauty and seclusion is what you want, it's not hard to find if you do your research.

I never said it's the recommended method for handling conflict.

It's out there though whether one agrees with it or not.
