Next tuesday will mark 4 months since I had my interview at Montreal where they asked me to send in additional documents. When I called DOS last week, they had received them on May 17th. Its taken way too long, and I require my passport back.

Is it a good idea now to get it back?

If I ask for it back, how long would they take to send it back to me?

Anyone have any experience with getting there passports back while it was in for visa processing?

Thanks

I don't remember anyone posting here that they had requested their passport back (which is not to say it has never happened).

You are entitled to have your passport back if you want it. You can try emailing them and requesting it - for what it's worth.

I would suggest you request it via Fax, their fax number, according to their website is (514) 398-9748 Fax - there is a note here on VJ, on the consulate info page, that it is 514-398-9748 - I suggest you try the one from their site first. Good luck.

Oh - as to your question on whether or not it's a good idea to request it back now - well, think of it this way. You get it back, they approve your visa, they request your passport and it goes back in to that big pile of mail your additional information was in. You say DOS has a note that they received it May 17th - when did you actually send it?

I am also in need of my passport back soon. I sent it in on April 5th, they got it on April 8th. They wanted it just to put my visa in it...I am still waiting for it...I was going to give them another month but maybe I will fax them also.

I sent it on March 15th (couple days after the interview)

Hi. I'm new to this thread. I sent my passport for over 8 weeks now and haven't received it yet. If you want it back before they issue a visa you have to send them an e-mail with the subject line "passport return" and provide them with an address where they can send it. i am afraid to do this since they may delay me even further and I'm pretty much on my last straw.
