Too bad there's a 360 day limit on name changes or she could change her name to Taliban Princess.

I am not a taliban princess :P

I'm what I guess you would call an orthodox muslim.... I don't believe in changing my religion like others don't seem to mind doing. Whether it be the terrorists who kill innocent people in the name of Islam or those who seek to weaken it and overrule the laws that God made for us or 'modernize' it.

gee, and here I thought Islam was a religion

Technically no... it's a complete way of life... a set of rules that should govern its follower's every single daily action.

wow... I had no idea Jesus wanted women to cover their hair. I never read that in the bible.

Fuzz, muslims believe that the christian bible is distorted. No personal offense to you. I tolerate your beliefs and your right to exist :star:

What a shame to support the taliban.

Qu'ran also commands religious tolerance.

No I do not support the taliban. I already said I don't consider them muslims.

One verse of the Quran cannot negate other verses... Also, it's horrible for you to imply that the prophet you claim to love ever did anything against the Quran. Religious tolerance is in the Quran but erecting idols is forbidden.

Your interpretation is in direct contradiction with leading sheikhs who have studied Quranic hermeneutics and are exegetes rather than simple readers. To claim God would condone tearing down the statues of another religion is an interpretation of select ayat and overlooks the overall message of tolerance of the Qur'an. The teachings of the Qur'an are to be taken as a whole, not in bits and pieces. Comparing Buddhist statues to the kabaa is apples and oranges. The kabaa was/is part of the hajj and of course there would not be acceptance of idols in such a place. Sharia itself is interpretative as evidenced by its variance from country to country.

I'm specifically talking about idols interfering with the laws of the sharia in a country that is governed by such.

Were the idols a threat to the sharia state or is the sharia state a threat to the existence of the idols and the historical heritage of the country (which, unlike governments is not transitory)?

You state that you are not a taliban princess yet you support their destroying what is dear to another group of people.

Jesus didn't make the calendar considering it didn't come about until after his alleged death

alleged death? does this mean he's still alive.. kind of like the hidden imam?

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

What I find shocking is that people are so willing to write off the historical heritage of their country in such a callous manner. That requires a distinct lack of positive patriotic spirit - by which I mean being simply proud of your country, your origins and your history (as opposed to supporting a particular government). Regardless of the particular religious origins of a particular monument - you would think that people could appreciate artistic endeavor outside of a narrow-minded world view. You don't see the British having a referendum to build a Tesco's on top of Stonehenge, nor do you see the Peruvians pulling down Macchu Pichu, or the Mexicans removing the 'eyesore' of Tenochtitlian from their skyline.

Destroying the statues was an act of politically calculated vandalism for the sole gratification of a short sighted, primitive and oppressive regime that country is well rid of.

As to restoring the damage, I'm inclined to agree with Mdyoung - the country has more pressing problems, not to mention the damage that was done is probably irreparable - its not like gluing the nose back on the Sphinx. IMO they should leave the site the way it is - so that future generations can see first hand the results of bigotry and intolerance.
