Buddha is not a GOD statue considering that buddhism is a non-theistic religion. Buddha is a guide and teacher who points the way for Buddhists. It is also a historic artifact.

Here's a scenario - Let's say 3,000 years from now China becomes the hugest superpower and moves in and takes over Saudi Arabia. Would you be pissed off if they blew up Mecca and Medina, and then decided to pack up and ship the pieces off to another muslim country?

Which is exactly what this was. A cynical attempt to obliterate the country's historical past.

They felt threatened by a millennia and a half year old monument built by an extinct civilisation and destroyed it because it didn't fit in with the laws of the regime. What is that if not political?

It's against the laws of the religion they pretend to follow... they are not a political party.... they are a bunch of renegade terrorists.

Terrorists are political. The act they performed as despotic rulers of Afghanistan was a direct attempt to obliterate the country's historical past because the regime couldn't tolerate a 'deviant' image.

Yet those renegade terrorists are the ones who tore them down.

Yet you support that garbage by saying to ship it off to another country. The statues would lose so much meaning if they were built in another area.

So what if they are or not, people have the right to co-exist. There are plenty of muslims livng in Christian countries, should their mosques be blown up sent back to their countires?

They should follow the laws of the country they're in and if it's against the law to have a mosque or worship as muslims then they should leave.

They have the RIGHT to co-exist  something you obviosly don't believe in. Christians have been there all along, they are PART of that country

How would they lose meaning? Is there a large budhist population there?

Did I say for the christians to leave? I said if the muslims are not free to worship in a christian country the muslims should leave.

Unless you are in a prison, you are free to go at any time :star: I think its quite hypocritical of you to say we are all Kafar's and then live here and petition for your husband to live here. I think its discusting that you think that blowing up statues is ok because of your religion. You have no tolerence at all  yet how do you expect people to tolerate you?

What does that have to do with it. Buddhists DID live there, just as the druids DID live in Britain, just as the Romans lived in Italy, the Assyrians and Persians in Iraq and Iran. History is everywhere. You can't go around pulling things down to pretend it never happened...

No, not anymore.. But It was a Buddhist religious site from the second century up to the time of the Islamic invasion in the ninth century.

It is not just the statues but also a SITE.

The Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem would lose all of it's meaning if it was blown up and shipped off to another country because it was believed that Mohammed (pbuh) ascended into heaven from that site. You lose the site, it loses meaning.

I can't imagine people responding too well if the Holy Sepulchre was torn down brick by brick and moved to Las Vegas.

Yup... Don't ever bash my country. You are offered the right to bring your SO here. In Sharia countries (like Saudi for example) you do not have the right to bring your SO here. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

It is in the Qu'ran that religious tolerance is a requirement, yet these "sharia" countries are not following that.

Great point!

Yes! There are quite a bit in Algeria as well... Meriem may have some pictures still up.

While they wait for the Afghan government and the international community to decide whether to rebuild them, a £685,000 project funded by UNESCO, the United Nations' cultural organisation, id=1141822006[/url]

Seems to me that they have more pressing needs than to spend $1,301,034.00 on putting some rocks back together.
