Well that is all about the struggle of serving God, you have to make choices on whether you want to stick to it or not. We can't expect to live in a world where it's so easy to keep our beliefs because we have no opportunity to make a decision. Where would free will be in all of it? and why would God want our worship because we had no other choice, rather than because we want to, no matter what is around us, whether idols, temples, churches, mosques, witchcraft alters, etc. Our surroudings should not effect our worship of God if we truly want to worship him and truly believe what we believe.

Unfortunately our surroundings do effect our beliefs.

I would like to get your views on something VP. In Jordan, during Ramadam, it is forbidden for non-muslims to eat, drink, or smoke outside of their homes during daylight hours. All the restaurants are closed as well. Do you agree with this?

You know what? You are all right! I have seen the light!

We should all have our own faith and acknowledge that we each have our own divine laws in place for us but choose to ignore them.

How could I have missed this enlightenment?

Thanks so much to you all for helping me with this. (F)

You're bang on accurate here...it's called tolerance!

We each do have our own divine laws in place for each of us....thing is...those laws are governed by personal beliefs which will vary!

JP, what happens if they break those laws?

Because a man might see a pornographic picture and decide he wants to have sex. So the only solution is to ban p0rn0graphy, erotica, romance literature, oh and rock music (for good measure). All in the name of protecting you from yourself.

Whatever happened to allowing people to make thier own decisions (and taking responsibility for them)?

My faith could never be shaken by my surroundings...:no::no: absolutely not!

:) I agree.

To me, it's really not valid to deprive someone from a religious choice just so they will keep believing the same things. And then add to it that Sujeet became a Christian after being surrounded by Hinduism and idols his whole life, and continued to live in those surroundings before moving to the US, and yet he became more and more confident in his christianity. No one approached him to convert, he started reading stuff on his own and made up his mind, not inside a church or around Indian Christians, but on his own. We can only make personal decisions. If we do not believe in idols, we can control that they won't be inside our house. But we can't control others. And Sujeet was able to be a Christian, who was always reading his bible, in a place where he knew hardly any Christians and never was around a Christian atmosphere. He made a choice because he was free to make it.

Anyway, my point was this. When you said you want to take away idolism to protect future muslims it made me think of how how Christians are not allowed to eat or drink outside their homes and if they do they go to jail.

The ideas behind this make me laugh. I can respect the fact that when you fast for a month it is difficult, but how are you overcoming temptation if you take all if away? As Stina said, you have to make choices. Those statues are a part of that country's history. What is the point of having religion if you don't make choices and resist temptations? Like Lisa and Stina, there is not a thing that can shake my religion. :star:

It goes without saying that you can't demand toleration for your beliefs if you refuse to extend that same courteousy to others. Ultimately its not the religion that is at fault - but the fundamentalist interpretation of some of its alleged followers.

I just find it extremely sad that some people apparently have no regard for the value of their own historical heritage. How else can you have a sense of national identity? I really don't know...
