Many people may not make such a big deal about it, but that doesn't mean it should be forgotten. I bet you yourself would want your kids to know who your ancestors were, no matter what they believed, for the sake of history. You can't(or shouldn't is the better word) erase history.

It's not about erasing history... it's about protecting future muslims from idolatry.

Morocco's family law is based in Sharia; however, Jews and Christians have their own laws. The Ummayads did the same in Syria. For non-Muslims, civil law was the law of their religious community.

India has a similar arrangement. There is a common criminal code for people of all communities. For family law, Hindus have to follow a legal code that derives from British common law. Muslims get to follow sharia for family law cases unless they choose to pursue their case under a common law court.

and the same could be said if israel ran all the muslims out of israel.

The Palestinians were there before "Israel" existed so how is that the same? They are currently occupying them are they not?

Does your history only go back to 1947? "Israel" may not have exisited but the people did, it is the birthplace of Judiasm which was the first.

Sharia law didn't even exist in Afghanistan until 1996 and it's quite apparent that the people of Afghanistan didn't like living under the rule of the Taliban or thier interpretation of Sharia law.

Well that is all about the struggle of serving God, you have to make choices on whether you want to stick to it or not. We can't expect to live in a world where it's so easy to keep our beliefs because we have no opportunity to make a decision. Where would free will be in all of it? and why would God want our worship because we had no other choice, rather than because we want to, no matter what is around us, whether idols, temples, churches, mosques, witchcraft alters, etc. Our surroudings should not effect our worship of God if we truly want to worship him and truly believe what we believe.

Which is a point of national regret for most Americans, just as the Holocaust has become a sensitive subject for modern Germans.

Do they really regret it? Or are they happy to have this country today? Is anyone offering to give it back?

You clearly can't "unkill" people, and you can't displace millions of people hundreds of years after the event who had nothing whatsoever to do with the genocide in the first place.

Most, if not all legal systems do not hold a person's descendents responsible for the crimes of their ancestors.

I'm not talking about giving anything back - I'm talking about a people not respecting the historical origins of their own country. That statues don't belong to buddhists, they belong to the people of Afghanistan.

You know what? You are all right! I have seen the light!

We should all have our own faith and acknowledge that we each have our own divine laws in place for us but choose to ignore them.

How could I have missed this enlightenment?

Thanks so much to you all for helping me with this. (F)

Speak for yourself, I don't ignore my faith. :star:

But that is all a part of the struggle. It would test your faith to see if it's strong or weak enough to let something change your mind just because you are around it.

My faith could never be shaken by my surroundings...:no::no: absolutely not!
