When I first noticed this thread, I was like "why are there 18 pages for something so innocuous?" I figured someone had to have said something intolerant, and wow was it.

VP, you need to look at the big picture of what Islam teaches. Quit cherry-picking parts of the Koran that happen to support your views. Why are you afraid of statues built hundreds of years before there was a name for Islam? Is the faith that fragile? That's what got me about the cartoon controversy; are a handful of frankly not well drawn cartoons able to bring down one billion believers in Islam?

And everyone if they choose to be religious needs to do the same (IMHO). Regardless of their religion, fundamentalists end up with remarkably similar practices, things like intolerance, hatred, degradation of women. If Pat Robertson or James Dobson ran this country we'd all be forced to be Christian and women would be out of the boardroom and back into the kitchen, preferably barefoot and pregnant.

Maybe it would help us all to understand you better, VP, if you could perhaps tell us how you found your type of Islam, or how you were introduced to it? Seems like a big jump from paganism, that's all.....

The main thing that turned me off from christianity was the deifying of Jesus which is not in the bible (at least not the one I had). I believed he was a messenger but not a god..... later (late teens) I found out that the concept of the trinity and a dying god and all that were actually pagan beliefs long before Paul came up with them.... needless to say I fell into the trap that many people fall into nowadays... I started to believe in the "old religions" since christianity seemed to me to be based off of them.

Not according to the sharia It's their country, if they choose to rule it by the sharia they shouldn't be labeled "intolerant" because they follow their religion in their country.

I knew exactly what he was getting at.... the same thing as everyone here who's throwing poo my way... it doesn't bother me at all... call it intolerant if you will but I am sure that EVERY law that God made for us has a great reason behind it.

I don't advocate going into other countries and imposing our religion on others so it's not that the sharia doesn't recognize other religious groups rights to exist. As I am forever told here, if you don't like it you can leave.... otherwise, follow the laws of the country you're in

People have a right to follow whatever set of laws they see fit in their countries and to say otherwise is.... intolerant
