gee, and here I thought Islam was a religion

Technically no... it's a complete way of life... a set of rules that should govern its follower's every single daily action.

wow... I had no idea Jesus wanted women to cover their hair. I never read that in the bible.

Fuzz, muslims believe that the christian bible is distorted. No personal offense to you. I tolerate your beliefs and your right to exist :star:

sorry, i went to bed. you tolerate my beliefs... as opposed to accepting them?

Fuzz, we can agree to disagree and I would not use your beliefs to judge how good of a person that you are.

vp's next religion change in 5.......4....3.......2....

 Are we taking bets? Cuz I'm going with mormonism for her next one. Afterall, like islam, the founder of mormonism talked to God and wrote a holy book claiming it to be truer than the Bible.

Come on vp, whaddya say!

I'm guessing her husband is as extreme as she is. Which means if she tries to leave Islam, he will probably have to kill her.

Good thing for VP that her last husband wasn't as fervent and traditional....

Well vp, looks like you'll be converting in secret.

No need to convert to anything... it was a long search for the truth but once you find it you hold strong to it

I won't disagree with that. However, I think you'd better keep looking if you truly believe Jesus was muslim.

I think this really comes down to semantics and how we define Muslim/Islam. If you are defining Muslim as "believer", i.e. - believer in one God, than yes, all the Prophets would be considered Muslims/believers.

However, if you are applying the contemporary understanding of Muslim, someone who not only believes in one God but as Muhammad as his messenger, than no - they were not Muslims.

I think this is what JP was getting at in re-writing history.

If we want to get technical, I believe the base line statement is that everyone is born in a state of fitrah. While fitrah is a complex idea and is difficult to translate into a single word or phrase, I think it's best rendered as a person's natural state and inclination to submit God.

According to muslim belief, the natural religion God has given is Islam. Thus, when born, our natural inclination is towards God and His religion, and to submit to Him. As such, one can reason that we're born naturally submitting towards God, ie as a muslim, since muslim translates as one who submits.
