Had it been the muslim ruler in a country governed by the sharia then yes I would agree it was right. However, the taliban does not have any right to act as ruler in any country so they don't have the right to make decisions like that.

Here's another question: do you think it was wrong then for the statues to be allowed to stay up for so long? under Sharia law, why do you think they were allowed to remain? If they are such an abomination, why weren't they proudly demolished?

I asked that - but you won't get a straight answer. She's seems to think Sharia law justifies the destruction of art and apparently doesn't consider the historical heritage of a country (when it conflicts with that law) to be of any value whatsoever. Quite sad really.

I didn't think there would be many people (in the modern world), who would support book burning - but after hearing this I think I would be surprised

Well I'm not sat here trying to poke holes in your religion...really I'm not....but this justification alone would make anyone religious and beliving in God a Muslim, no?

That's a cop-out. The power to do something doesn't make it right. Two questions:

1) What do you personally feel about the destruction of a site of Afghanistan's historical heritage?

If you don't like that one - how about this?

2) Do you think that statues and other monuments dating back to pre-christian and pre-muslim civilisations, that have stood for thousands of years have a right to exist separately from the arbitrary laws of transitory governments?

This one merely requires a yes or no answer, but feel free to elaborate.

I don't think a website is proof of anything I am not saying if they condemn it or not and I know you are just answering a question, but website IMO is not proof since anyone can have one.

The internet has been a wonderful tool for spreading knowledge... it's also been used tremenously to spread misinformation as well.

It is a blessing that the scholars have allowed their articles to be placed on the internet to facilitate dawah.

No, if that were the case then the devil would be a muslims, his followers would be muslims, the pharoh would have been a muslim.... there is a huge difference between believing in God and submitting to His will.
