the new rule for social security

has anyone got there social security card yet its been 2,5 months since my wife entered,we actually applied in ds-230 form but never got it so we went to our social security office they wanted her greencard,passport copie,and that was not enough they wanted her countries birth certifacate and took copy of that. and there going to send it to USCIS if they say she is legal there going to give her a ssn,so has this been happening to anybody else

Her A#, passport, visa and marriage certificate should've been enough for them to issue a SSN. Why are they sending it to USCIS?

SS cards usually are mailed within 2 weeks of an application.

All I had to provide was my passport (with visa stamped inside) and my birth certificate. They did not keep them, (I actually can't even remember if they made a copy) and I had my card in 6 days.

You just stepped into an office with incompetent SSA employee.

GO BACK, get a supervisor, ask to be looked up in the SAVE database, using the VISA NAME.

Seriously.

To be tagged for 'USCIS/DHS VERIFICATION' process at SSA, is sure sign the SSA employee either -

1. could not find you in SAVE database or

2. did not look you up in SAVE database.

IMO, must apply in VISA name - saves much hassle.

Impossible to get resolution via telephone to 'national office/hotline'.

I would return to the SSA office and speak to a different person, or supervisor if available. Some employees complicate simple procedures due to their lack of understanding of the process.

My wife entered POE on May 31 and received her SS card two days ago ( June 10 ) without the need to apply at SSA office.

I would wait 2-3 weeks before walking into the SSA office to apply just in case one is in the mail. If after 2.5 months, start by directing the SSA employee to the possibility that the card might be lost in the mail.

Have them check to see if in fact a SS # has been assigned. If one is not assigned after 2.5 months, proceed with the formal application process.

I waited 3 weeks since I got here, then I went to apply for my SSN, they only request my greencard and my passport. I got my SSN a week later by mail at home.
