No that's great - not braggy at all!!! I'm glad you finally hit the jackpot with a MIL. Is she going to stay with you for a bit after the baby is born?

I didn't mean to sound ungrateful for mine either. I mean let's consider the fact that my hubby is the only person who ever really took care of her - she's in her 70s and relied on him a lot (he lived next door to her when he was in the UK). He meets me, he moves 4000 miles away - she would have every reason to dislike or resent me for taking him away from her. But she's always been nothing but kind, considerate and loving towards me. I'm not sure I could be the bigger person if the roles were reversed, you know? So god bless her. Plus this is her first grandchild so she is just over the moon. It will be hard for her to leave us all at the airport I'm sure.

But still - you know how it is - house guests are like fish - they all stink after a few days. HA.

Oh I can totally understand if your MIL was a resentful biotch because you 'took him away', so it's wonderful that she's not like that! I think my ex's mom resented my 'Americanness' because I always made it clear that I would never settle in the UK. But then again, I kept saying no to her son's proposals back then too, so what's her probbo . But it sounds like you hit the jackpot too with a woman who has 'every right' to be negative, but isn't!

Plans are very up in the air as far as their visit right now. Because we never do anything in halves, the man is also graduating with his Master's degree on Oct 1. The plan was always for them to come out for the graduation. The baby's due Sept 15th. I guess the plans 'stuck' so to speak that they'd still keep on the graduation schedule, which is fine by me, because I'd love to schedule the baptism while they all are here. (Sis and her gf are coming as well). I really really would love them all to stay, but my FIL runs his own fairly large company, and he cannot be away for extended periods of time right now. And I'm really not sure how well he'd fare without his wife for a month. Not that there's anything wrong with him or anything, you just know how men are, lol.

Thing also is, I met the man because he moved here to go to this one uni. He chose his apt based on proximity to sch. It's a one bedroom apt  We are actually buying a house prolly in November, but until he graduates and gets 'settled' somewhere, we have no clue what we're doing  His family is welcome to stay with mine, but I'm not sure that's gonna work either. So I really can't see them staying too long, unless they get one of those 'extended stay' places, which is not my in-laws' style, lol. I told Scott they could have our bed and we'll stay on the pull out couch and his answer was 'don't be ridiculous'.

So yeah, marriage, baby, graduation, new job, and new house all within 6 mos. We joke and say we're on the accelerated plan.

October for his graduation may make the most sense for them to visit - that'd give you time to get settled into your routine as new parents, and THEN deal with the onslaught of visitors and activities.

I was actually thankful that his mom suggested mid to late August for her visit, acknowledging that we'd need time to 'figure it out' before dealing w/ house guests.

My in-laws are pretty cool, if a little nutty. They visited for over two weeks in November, which was something of a challenge. Jon's stepfather Pete has some major health problems and probably shouldn't have made the trip (he also forgot to bring one of his medications, which caused something of a crisis), bless 'im. When the wee one arrives, I think Jon's mum is planning a visit by herself around New Year's.

On Baby Loony (babycenter), there are people talking about in-laws who plan to visit for the birth and then stay with the new parents afterward. Can you imagine having house guests under those circumstances? I mean, maybe it would be handy if your MIL was a lactation consultant or something. Of course, many of these in-laws are the same types who insist on being in the delivery room too. When I hear about that kind of thing, I thank my lucky stars for my very British in-laws, who would never dream of such an invasion of privacy and hospitality!

I just have to brag for a second because I have never been able to do so in the past....so PLSPLSPLS indulge me for a sec!!! All I've ever wanted was a nice MIL who would respect me, I hoped for one that I could have a good relationship with, but my luck up until now has been just horrible. It has actually been a source of heartache in my life in the past because I tried soooo very hard with my first MIL, letting insults slide off my back, shutting my mouth and smiling for the sake of peace, etc. My ex-MIL was quite possibly the meanest, most horrible woman I have ever met in my life. My Brit ex's mom was just 'beige'...we were polite and nice, but we really had no relationship whatsoever. She was a quite cold and b!tchy at times, but otherwise, just nothing. I think I saw her 10 times in the years that I lived there, and she lived 2 miles away.

My soon to be MIL, omG, I love her so much. I feel really lucky to have her. We were just contemplating asking her if she could come a month ahead of the FIL (they live in Seattle) so she could spend more time with us.

Sorry to sound like a braggart, but I really am so elated that I 'lucked out' this time, and I had to share...

That's terrific Lisa! It's wonderful to have a great MIL. One of the things I am sorry about in leaving Bruce is that I adore his mum. She's been like a much less prickly version of my own mother. :) We still talk on the phone and I feel I will always have a relationship with her no matter what. I am lucky to have her in my life.

So mommas-to-be, I am in the midst of one baby-knitting project, but one is never enough! I want to make booties and hats. In particular, there is one hat that I am dying to make -- the L'il Devil Hat. I have made it in its adult form and it is very cute (and devilish!). Here's a picture:

Can be any colour you want, with or without horns, or with kitty ears instead. Any takers?biggrin.gif

(NB: It will not make your baby drool extra, despite the illustration.)

I have this friend who's quite strangely close to her son, bless her. He's around 21ish and just had a baby....he and his gf and the baby live with my friend. Anyhoo, my friend was not only IN the delivery room, but has pictures to boot! And she's showing me all the innocuous photos, mom's face, dad in scrubs, etc...and the very next pic is of the girl's hoo-ha with the baby's head poking out.

I was like 'uhh, does so and so know that you're showing her ####### all over the place?'

OMG That is so cute!! I would buy one for my nephew if my SIL wasn't such a beast.

I have never mastered the art of knitting/crocheting. I don't think I ever will.

I would love to have my in-laws come visit, but they refuse to come to Utah until after they go to Australia. So we are planning on going with them Nov 2011. I can't wait!! When I have my next baby I would love to have my MIL come over because she is a pediatric nurse and is not an over controlling type. If anyone ever showed pictures of my V, I would punch them in the neck.

Our VisaJourney started July 2009 when I mailed the 129-F

Fiance here February 2010, married 10 days later

GC received in the mail 10-Jun-2010

Able to apply to remove conditions 12-Feb-2012

Wow - I'm impressed by Jon's step father. Chas' step father couldn't really give a sh** about our child. Probably the fact that he referred to me as 'that American girl' at one point may have something to do with it. LOL

OMG I could not handle that!! I would kill me some mo fo - relative or not!!!

That is one CUTE hat, Maven! LOL I think the cat ears might be even cuter though. There's currently a Sears appliance commercial with a couple where the man has a child in a sling and it has on a similar 'cat eared' hat. It always makes me ooh and ahh. :D

I swear if anyone gets close to my hoo-ha with any sort of recording device, they'll be soundly kicked in the face...

Excellent! I'd go for the classic red horns. Actually, when we were at the 18-week ultrasound appointment, Jon asked the tech if devil horns and the tail would show up on the ultrasound. Fortunately, she had a sense of humor and assured us that we'd see the horns if they were there--she couldn't be sure about the tail.

Forget the baby, I want one, hehehe.

You're in the queue. biggrin.gif Flaps? No flaps?

They take me about 8 hours to make for the adult ones -- so easy on circular needles.

I LOVE the kitteh!!! :D :D

The friend I made it for went BANANAS for it when it came in the mail.
