Usually the nausea/fatigue (esp. the fatigue!) dissipate by the end of the first trimester, so that's good news. Was true for me mostly, except I carried the nausea for a few weeks into my second trimester.

Then, 6th month - WHAM with the freaking heartburn.

I'll bet you the PG lady hormones are making you extra weepy about home and family ('nesting' and all). Not surprising really. Are your family planning to come over for the birth, or?

My MIL thankfully waited until Emily was 6 weeks old before she came over. Didn't spare us from wanting to kill her, though.

Oh yes - I have no doubt that the hormones are playing a BIG part!

I made soy-milk pancakes stuffed with salted chocolate and topped with ice-cream last night, and ate those while watching Tangled. That made me feel a little better. ;)

My mother is hopefully coming over! She said she would, but how long for I'm not sure. I think she's afraid she'd be imposing - but I would really appreciate her help (and her cooking!). I'd also like my sister to come and visit next year, but I would have to help pay for her ticket - not a problem, it's just that neither she nor I have much spare cash at the moment!

Fortunately I have the BEST parents-in-law; I'm very lucky, especially considering I see them every week. So I've no worries or interfering or annoying relatives. My mother's own mother is very tough to handle, and I know my dad used to find it hard whenever she'd come to stay.

You're talking to someone on Weight Watchers, so - bite me.

Oh that's great! You will really want her around - not just for the delivery (I recall saying 'mommy, hold my hand!' about 2 dozen times, LOL) but when you're a new mom, you just want her around to help guide you - not to mention the cooking! So be sure and tell her she is NOT imposing and that you will need her. And I'm sure your sister won't be able to stand not being able to meet her new niece or nephew. I hope that works out.

You are lucky with the parent's in law. (It sounds like everyone on this thread hit the in law lottery except me. Such is my fate. LOL) I'm sure they'll be a great help to you guys as well. Exciting times to come!!! :) :)

Thanks! I hope it all works out, too. :)

I was made to feel guilty yesterday about my recent diet choices. So today I attempted to eat scrambled eggs and an apple... the eggs (my normal breakfast) I could not even stomach one mouthful of, and the apple took me two and a half hours to eat, very slowly - and then I instantly threw it back up! Ugh!

Since then I've had two cookies and feel better.

Vegetables/salad items seem to be okay... as long as they are plain! So I've asked Alex to stock up on tomatoes/cucumber/peas, etc.; I really don't want to be too unhealthy!

Awww! I'm sorry you're not feeling well. I felt truly awful during the first trimester...and most of the second...and..well, never mind. That's great that you can stomach vegetables! During the acutely queasy stage, I could only eat cold sweetened cereal, plain bagels, peanut butter, and apples. I wouldn't feel guilty about your diet. Just go with whatever will stay down! :)

Tracy, if it makes you feel any better, we probably won't be doing anything for Halloween w/ Mad-Ag, and her birthday is October 27! I think they'll have something at daycare, but she's too young to trick or treat. Re: sewing, I sewed a button on a pair of pants a couple of weeks ago and felt very proud of myself!

I agree with Empress. Eat what you can while you're this nauseous and don't worry too much about the nutrition. You can make up for that once you're feeling better. Your prenatal vitamin (if you can keep that down!) should help a lot with getting what nutrients you and the peanut need.

That does make me feel better. :) I imagine we'll be doing Halloween but just with a store bought costume. I wouldn't blame you for not though with her birthday so close (hard to believe, isn't it??!). Sewing buttons on is the extent of my sewing prowess, let me just tell ya. Chas talked once about fixing one of his socks and I looked at him as if he was from Mars. I think my exact words after the look were 'Go to damn Walmart and buy a new pack.' LOL!!!

Thank you for the kind words! I'm feeling a little less guilty about all the cookies and ice-cream now. ;)

I did actually manage to make (and eat) a proper Sunday roast yesterday, but I've had bad indigestion ever since! Ugh!

I spoke to my mother this morning and I think any reluctance on her part actually stems from her not wishing to leave my 14 year old twin siblings for too long (they'd have my Dad and older siblings to help, of course, but not quite the same as having their mother at home!) but as the baby's due around the Easter hols she's thinking that she could take the twins with her for two weeks, send them back home alone, and then remain for an extra 10 days - two weeks after that. :)

Re. darning socks - it certainly isn't worth it! I actually used to darn my own socks growing up (large family, could never find a non-holey pair, was too young to have my own money to buy new socks), and you'd end up with these awkward stitched seams that just pulled the fabric in weird directions. Definitely just buy new pairs these days!

Glad to read all the updates Rachel....it certainly is an interesting time. My advice would be to just eat what you can hold down, and exercise a little bit every day.

Yay for Mad-Ag's upcoming b-day! Now with Rachel here, she's no longer the baby of the group, and we have a new freshmen class, lol.

Also yay for Em and her strides with walking (was that on here or on fb? now I can't remember). What's Em going as for Halloween? Last year, after Halloween, I bought several costumes for Nick this year, lol. I couldn't decide which. So he's either going as a tiger, a ghost, a dinosaur, or Winnie the Pooh. I was never big on WtP, but my mom's 'name' is 'Honey'...not Grandma or anything like that...Honey. So naturally, Pooh became a theme for them....cos you know 'Pooh loves his hunny' lol. It's cute, and Nick seems to love WtP no matter how I feel it's the biggest overused theme for kids and their rooms hehehe.

Nick's doing great....he does have a cold right now, but now that we've all graduated to 2nd year mommies, I've got that cold under control with no worries. Trip to the docs, some meds, homemade chickie soup, humidifier, baby vicks, and lots of rest. And he's taking it like a champ. He did manage to get me and hubby sick too...so that kinda sucks. But other than that, things are great - thank God. He's walking more and more everyday. He blows kisses. He points, he laughs uncontrollably for 5 minutes at a time (omG my heart can barely contain itself when he gets into a fit like that). He plays nice with other kids. He does have bouts with tantrums here and there...but we will not indulge them...so he's been learning who the boss is. And they're diminishing.

He even 'fell in love' on is birthday with this little girl named Kensley (sp?). We took him to the mall on his bday cos my mom wanted to buy him one of those growing candles. They are pretty cool...I had one, and I still light it every year on my bday. I'm sure it won't hold the same for him as he matures, because he's a boy...but whatever. So we're in the mall, and they have that kid train that goes around the mall. Of course, we did that, and he loved it! Then it let us off by that kid play area. Of course, I've always skeeved those places because I'm a bit of a germophobe, but at the same time...I can't raise my kid in a bubble. He saw the playground and really really wanted to go. So I grabbed our sanitizer, and went. Anyways, here comes Kensley, and his face just LIT UP. He started playing with her, and they were so cute together. He was flirting, even being coy...crawling away from her and then turning around to see if she'd follow. He'd smile big smiles at her, and that day, he started this new 'double wave' where he holds up both arms and waves at her. It's so cute!!!!

So Kensley's mom and I exchanged numbers, and we plan to meet up again soon. They have play dates at that mall every Friday, so I guess I'll go again.

I will say this, it was a bit of an unpleasant experience. We were at the same mall. At the same play area. There were no 'suitable' kids to play with (age appropriate). I'm going to be a bit of a snob right now too, but I don't really care. All the parents sitting around were gross. They were a mixed group of like dirty people....greasy hair, wrinkled dirty tshirts, etc. The kids looked pretty unkept as well. But I figured he could play by himself for a few minutes, cos once he saw the play area, he was kicking his legs in excitement. Anyway, he starts walking over to the wall. He walks well, but he's still unsteady. It's actually cute. He holds both arms out when he walks all clumsily. Hubby and I joke that we're going to wrap him in toilet paper so he can go as a mummy for Halloween. Anyway, he's almost at the wall, but begins to lose his balance. He grabs this kid's shirt to steady himself. The kid was 3. Well, this 3yo boy starts screaming BLOODY MURDER that my son touched his shirt. I mean like I started crapping my pants that there was going to be a problem because this kid's screams were that traumatic. Turns out, the dad was right there...so he saw the whole thing. The kid runs to his dad and the dad starts consoling him. The dad looked at me and was like 'no biggie, I know he didn't hurt him' But the dad didn't say to the kid 'he didn't even touch you, relax' etc. Like, what kind of kids are being raised today???? I know I'm going off on a tangent, but I can honestly say if the shoe were on the other foot, I'd tell Nick that he shouldn't be crying, that it was just a baby who was learning to walk, and he shouldn't be so sensitive.

Coincidentally after that visit to the play area, he got sick 3 days later.

Thanks Lisa - that was on FB where I mentioned Emily's 'drunken sailor' steps. Shouldn't be long now. :D

I'm cracking up at your entire mall story. But not the Nick getting sick part - that SUCKS!! :( :( And be sure to let us know when he has another 'date' with his girl Kensley. How cute is that?!

Em is also having hissy fits from time to time but like you, we ignore them. We find it funny how they come with reams and reams of crying but not a single tear. LMAO!!!! She is also blowing kisses now too which is funny. She just seems to be such a happy baby in general which we are both super pleased about.

Its funny how Em is the eldest in our 'freshman class' but has the least amount of teeth and took the longest to walk. I guess she won't be hurried along by anyone. Funny.

It's a long standing joke in my family that I was an early talker, and a late walker. Even Nick's Godfather Frankie (my oldest friend) and my mom were talking just last weekend about it and he said 'her? it figures. Nothing's changed' LOL

I was pulling myself up but didn't walk til I was like 14 mos or so. Mom said I wanted to be carried everywhere. I said 'what's wrong with that?' LOL

Nick's tantrums involve many tears at times. That's when he's pulling all the stops out. It's interesting to say the least.

Am I being a fuddy-duddy? I hadn't even considered taking Mad-Ag trick or treating.

Oh I did mean to say that I thought we'd take Em trick or treating but Chas was puzzled by this. She wouldn't know what she was doing or why she was doing it, he said, nor can she really eat much of the candy (or she shouldn't). So we're not doing it either, Empress.

We took Nick to the mall last year, just to show him off kinda, lol. We had gotten a pumpkin onesie, and he was just so darned cute. Scott ate the candy, lol.

We'll probs do the same this year, although he's old enough to see candy now, so I'm torn.

OK, thanks for the clarification. I remember my crazy ex-sister-in-law insisted on taking my niece Aimee trick-or-treating when she was just a year old and barely walking. We all thought it was a little weird, but she insisted that it was important for Aimee to have "the experience."

We live in a condo and never get trick-or-treaters (I always buy a bag of candy just in case, though!). Otherwise, I'd be tempted to dress up Mad-Ag and have her help me give out candy.

The Nick/Kensley story is adorable! Hopefully they can be good friends. :)

I can't see that a one year old would gain anything from trick-or-treating! Though I probably couldn't prevent Alex from wanting to dress up the kid. :innocent:
