Hi, ladies!

Happy birthday, Em!

Tracy, I'm glad that you guys finally had the talk and that Chas is taking it well. You must be so relieved!

I know Mad-Ag is a bit younger, but she's always resisted the schedule/routine to some degree, especially in relation to feeding. Some days, she's hungry and fussy all day and can't seem to eat enough, and other days, she doesn't eat much at all. Lately she's been fussy about solids and won't eat anything but sweet stuff and yogurt (man, she loves yogurt!). Her naps are all over the place. She hardly naps at daycare, but she's a light sleeper, and she has trouble settling down what with all the excitement (Taylor, etc.). When she's home, she'll nap more. I'm just glad she's sleeping through the night! She's almost always asleep by 8:30 and wakes up around 6. I could do with the 12-hour glory that people talk about, but I'll take 10!

Lisa, how do you get Nick to entertain himself in the pack ' play for 2 hours!? Madeleine gets lonely in her pen thingy after 5 or 10 minutes. Of course, she's very restless now that she's standing and crawling. She can now stand unassisted for up to 20 seconds (they actually counted the seconds at daycare and told Jon when he came to pick her up), and her crawling is getting fast. She just wants to tour the living room all day and find cords to chew on.

I'm not looking forward to the 12-month shots! I hope she can handle them better when she's bigger. With her previous shots, she got a fever that night and was very fussy. The administration of the shots wasn't too bad; she just howled for a few minutes and then was OK. I remember feeling bad that I couldn't give her a lollipop and tell her how brave she was.

Knock on wood, no vomiting since a week ago Monday!

I am relieved - thanks to you ladies for all your support. :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one with a routine-less baby (though I still wouldn't wish it on you). But I am THRILLED you got her to sleep through the night. 10 hours isn't 12, but is still enough time so that you guys don't feel like total zombies. Yay Mad-Ag - and for the vomit free week + !!!!

I, too, would like to know the pack n play secret. Even before Em was crawling and pulling up, her max 'happy time' in there was 10 minutes. We maybe got 20 minutes out of her ONCE. Wonder if it's girls who don't like being in there?? LOL. Em, too, is all about touring and being out and about - hence her fighting us on naps and whacking her bedroom wall in disgust when we dare to try one. :bonk:

He is only good in the pnp in the morning. It's been part of his routine from early days, so I guess he's used to it. He still will cry a little when I put him in, but I put on his shows, and he quiets down and watches them. Then he falls asleep.

If I put him in the pnp in the afternoon/evening...he goes apesh!t. Here's a funny lil story though: on the side of the house where his room is, there's a little hallway. If you go straight, you're in the bathroom...right, you're in his room, left, you're in the office/den. I wound up shutting all three doors, putting a baby gate by the entrance to the hallway, and I put him in there. There's no outlets that he can reach, and he can't reach the doorknobs yet. I would say it's only marginally bigger than the pnp....well, he doesn't have a problem hanging out in there in the afternoon. But, I only use that when I have to do something...like put up laundry/do dishes. Still, I wonder why he doesn't have a problem with that, but has a problem w the pnp.

Yay for no vomit!!!

Oh, he is quite the explorer too; I am starting to pull my hair out at how fast he gets into things. He's grabbing onto everything, walking (while holding onto things), getting into EVERYTHING. His favorite pastime is to climb onto the bottom shelf of his changing table (where all his shoes are), and throw them off the shelf one by one. Then he just sits there and lols.

My mom and mil were very helpful in the beginning by stressing that I put and keep him on a schedule. I dunno if that's the pnp secret, or if he's just like his dad and hates mornings...so he's more open to just do whatev, lol.

Well, Emily is either cutting teeth or has found her inner biotch. NOTHING made her happy yesterday. Oh, except the hour and a half that we were at the pool. In the water - quiet as a church mouse (even fell asleep for 5 mins in her floaty thing). The rest of the day, full on wail and howl. Food was refused, diapers were clean, didn't want to play anything particular, 'enforced' attempt at nap in crib and swing went over like lead balloon. She finally fell asleep on daddy out of sheer exhaustion at 7:45 pm. Only quiet I'd had all day. During which time I still managed to do 3 loads of laundry and pee occasionally.

I have had better days. I had to come to work to get some peace and quiet. LOL!

How's Em doing? Mad-Ag has been pretty fussy with the teething, so maybe that's it?

As always, it seems, I spoke too soon about Madeleine's vomiting. She woke up at 4:30 last Thursday morning and felt warm. It had been a while since the last middle-of-the-night wake, so I knew something was up. She threw up every day between then and Monday night. I think she had a virus of some type (not tummy, stools were normal...she was just back to her once- or twice-a-day upchucks). I took her to the doc Friday, but she didn't really have symptoms other than a fever and a slightly red throat (strep & UTI were negative). Initially I thought it was her molars coming in, because she was drooling up a storm. Now I think it may have been a sore throat virus. But of course it was accompanied by vomiting. She seems better now and the fever is gone, so we'll see. :( I had a friend over for dinner Thursday night whom I hadn't seen in a long time. Her first meeting w/ Mad-Ag allowed her to witness the now familiar scene (but we're now very adept at grabbing and positioning the bucket). Fortunately, she's not easily grossed out. Apparently her niece (now 15) used to projectile vomit all over everyone and everything.

Arrgh.

This breaks my heart....I'm so sorry Mad-Ag is going through this. It must be so hard watching this too.

What is really the source of the vomiting? Did the docs ever say? I know that it subsided a bit when you changed to Dr B's bottles, but have they gotten to the bottom of this and I just missed the update somehow?

It's still a mystery. The going theory is that she has a sensitive gag reflex and vomits easily when she's not well (cold, etc.). We're hoping that it's something she'll outgrow. The thing is, the spitting up has improved greatly, and the burping that was such a challenge when she was a little baby is no longer an issue. Initially the doctor suggested reflux, but she doesn't really have reflux symptoms. For example, she didn't really fuss at the bottle or seem in pain. She's always been a spitter-upper, but that has been improving steadily as she's gotten older. The only association we can make is that when she has an illness, even if it's unrelated to her tummy, she throws up easily. It doesn't happen every feeding, and it only happens every day when she's unwell, with something else. We had a glorious three weeks where she was just fine, we upgraded to level 3 nipples, and all was well--no change in diet, formula, or anything. Then she started feeling unwell and it started up again. We went back to level 2 nips. She was also refusing all solid food except yogurt.

I think for a while, the doctor didn't realize that when I said vomit, I didn't mean spitting up. It wasn't until I told him that we always keep a bucket by the couch (where we feed her) that he understood what I meant!

The doctor doesn't seem all that concerned because it's intermittent and doesn't seem to interfere w/ her growth. If it continues, I'll consider taking her to a specialist. Maybe a pediatric gastroenterologist?

It has been such a trial. :(

Sounds like it! :(

Here's the thing, Nick had BAD silent reflux, his only symptom was extreme constipation. He never fussed at the bottle once. Once we put him on Dr B's, and changed his formula to Nutramigen, he was fine. It's twenty-flipping-three-dollars-a-container, and yes, it had to be spelled out for emphasis. But, it stopped all the problems for us.

Doesn't sound like the same thing, but I've dealt with the reflux issues, and it was so emotionally hard on us. Not to mention physically hard on him.

Anyhoo, just a point of interest: we upgraded to level 3. It caused all sorts of choking problems. We went back to level 2 and have stayed there ever since. Down with level 3! *fist pump*

So sorry to hear that! How old is he? I know there are many different degrees of cerebral palsy and for the most mild cases the average person would not be able to tell.

If you are moving here on CR1 is he considered a US Citizen? That might help get him medical treatmentsif you do not yet have insurance.

Also, when you move here check with your school district to see if they offer any early intervention services. In my area they begin to send out therapists to your home to work on even the most basic of motor skills before the child is a year old.

I had a baby girl last night at 11:29 MST!!! My husband claims she is on GMT. Six pounds eleven ounces at 2.5 weeks early!!!

She is doing well and loves to cry. APGARs were 9 and 10. The midwife I had attend my homebirth was shocked that I had such minimal bleeding. We are thrilled, but sleep deprived after a week of having false labor every single night.
