He HAS to know what that means then, Lisa! Wow - that's so cool!!!

Chas has been working like the devil to ensure that Emily's first word will be 'daddy' - but so far, nothing more than lots of babbling. Now I'm starting to think she's behind! I will laugh like a drain if 'mama' is her first word though.

And thanks for the birthday shout out. :) I was a little under the weather a few days prior, and off work, so I wasn't around much.

Aw, Lisa, that's so cute. I know when Madeleine starts calling me Mum (I think we're going to go for Mum because she's half-Limey, and I grew up saying Mum too, being from Massachusetts), I'm going to get all weepy. How did I turn into such a wimp? Madeleine is doing lots of babbling, but nothing clear. Her best utterance remains a clear-as-a-bell "Hello" at 10 weeks--which she hasn't repeated!

Tracy, I hope you were able to enjoy birthday. How are you feeling? How's little Em?

Mad-Ag is now sitting up on her own! We can now plunk her down and she'll stay sitting up. She has also figured out how to bang two rattles together, and she's eating more food. Her crawling is coming along slowly but surely.

Unfortunately, she got another mild cold last week and threw up three times over the weekend, when we were in Tucson visiting my brother (fortunately, he has mostly tile flooring!). So, there's a good chance it's not the formula after all. It seems that changing to soy formula coincided, almost to the hour, with her getting over the second of back-to-back colds. She had a few good days, and once the cough came back, it was upchuck city--again. I've reached the conclusion that she just has a very sensitive gag reflex, and even a mild coughing spell after eating can bring it on. I remember the first few times we tried to give her Tylenol, she threw up everywhere, and at her 4-month appointment (when she wasn't sick), the oral vaccine, along with her previous feeding, came up seconds after the nurse gave it to her. I had a long talk w/ the doctor yesterday, and he thinks she just has a sensitive tummy/gag reflex, and that I shouldn't worry unless she starts to lose weight, has bad appetite, has a fever, etc. For the most part, she's just fine and has a good appetite. Obviously this vomiting thing isn't fun, tho! We keep a bucket by the couch, and we've both gotten pretty good at predicting when an upchuck is imminent. We'll probably switch back to the milk-based formula.

Today is her first day in Room 2, the "older infant" room. She's a big kid now!

Chas is going to say 'mum' but it's mom to me. So Emily will likely be quite confused.

I feel better, thanks Empress - still pretty snotty though. Unfortunately, Emily now seems to have a cold. She started sneezing a LOT last night and her nose is running. If it's anything like her last cold, she never really seemed to feel bad - was just a little more tired than usual but no icky cough or anything else. Runny nose and sneezing seems to be her worst thing. I guess I must have had a cold AND the sinus infection - who knew? Just hope Chas doesn't get it but he probably will...!

But otherwise, LOTS of talking, fast crawling (I mean FAST), pulling up and feeding herself - not with utensils yet. Oh Lisa - when I told Chas that Nick was already saying words (with meaning) and commented that Em isn't, he just said, 'Eh, she's blonde.'

Hard to believe we're having to plan her first birthday party! Yikes!! Probably nothing major as it's more for us than her. Likely just something at mom's house with family. Some good cake squishing on her part (and as such, a wardrobe change), toys and other pressies. My folks bought her next car seat for us as one of her gifts which saves us some dosh.

Sorry to hear about Mad-Ag's vomiting returning. But as you said, you're learning to anticipate it and if the doc isn't concerned, no need for worry. I can say that if I have extra snot in my nose or throat, it can very easily make me nauseous. Maybe she's that way too.

Oh the 'big kid' room! At least she has her boyfriend there with her. :D

We bought Emily CUTE pink and white trainers this weekend...and she has been bee-bopping to music for about a week now. Adorably cute!

That is all. :D

pics or it didn't happen :P

Yay for Mad Ag sitting up, and the big girls' room! LOL to Chas' 'she's blonde' comment. Trace, it's CRAZY how time flies!!!! 1 year already, whoa!

It's hard to get pics of bee-bopping. Looks like sitting still. Will have to try and get some video. She has a new toy guitar and knows how to make it play some tunes. That seems to be her favorite thing to rock out to. :)

I am in denial about the 1 year old thing. LOL

Aw! Can we see pics?

I can't wait until Mad Ag can wear sneakers. She already has three pairs waiting for her.

When did you little ones sit up by themselves? My little man is about to turn 8 months old and isn't sitting up without a support yet.. Well, unless I balance him JUST right, he'll topple right over seconds later. Should I be worried yet? He had a tough start; was born 3 weeks early via emergency c-section & spent 10 days in NICU where he went from being "Severely brain damaged" to "Hey, he's recovered! Take him home!" so I'm a little SUPEROMGPARANOID about every little milestone he hasn't met yet.. :(

Madeleine is 7 months (she'll be 8 months June 27 and was full term), and she only started sitting up unassisted within the last week. I get the impression from the preschool ladies that this is on the early side. She was rocking on all fours weeks ago but is only just starting to crawl. It's still tentative, and she'll give up after two or three strides and sit for a little while. I'm learning that there's tons of variation with this stuff. Madeleine's boyfriend Taylor, who is 8 months, isn't sitting up yet. He only just started turning over both ways a few weeks ago. I think Madeleine is getting bored with him. She has a new buddy, Molly, who is 11 months and way more interesting because she's crawling everywhere.

Jon had a cute story from last week...Madeleine and Taylor were in their exersaucers and amusing each other. When Jon arrived and took Madeleine out, Taylor started crying. Jon said he had to start clapping (which wasn't easy because he was holding Mad-Ag) and making silly faces so Taylor would stop crying. He was upset that his friend was leaving. :(

How is your boy doing generally?

Nick was sitting up at around 5-6 mos or so...I have to check his book for the exact date, but if memory serves, it's around there.

I think babies do things at their own pace. Nick has a friend only a month older, and he's walking, climbing, etc. Nick's not doing that. He also didn't pull himself up as fast as his friend did. I was freaking out, and my hubby was like 'let him do things in his own time'. So that's what I try to remember anytime I'm stressing.

Have you spoken to the doc about it? What does (s)he say?

I have one picture of her shoes on my phone but it's kinda poor quality, Empress. Will see if I can get it on FB.

I agree with Lisa - they all do it at their own pace. I think Emily was a little later in her 8th month before she could do it on her own - which is way later than Lisa's son. She also didn't start crawling on all fours all the time until about 3 weeks ago, so...! I'd say he's just fine.

Hi, ladies

A happy Friday to youse! I hope everyone is well.

There have been exciting developments with Mag-Ag. The first (knock on wood): She hasn't thrown up since a week ago Wednesday. She has had a runny nose for a few days, but no volcanic upchucks! She's eating well, and I've been trying to feed her solids three times a day. The spitting up is much better too. Teeth continue to come in...a total of 8. And (drumroll please): she's crawling everywhere and has started pulling herself up to standing. She went from sitting up to crawling to standing in the space of about two weeks. We're really behind on babyproofing. Our living room is a total danger zone.

Here's a pic from last weekend:

Aww - that is such a cute photo!!! She is definitely way ahead of where Em was with the crawling/pulling up - Chas would claim this is because Emily is blonde. Also she only has the TWO teeth - but Mad has 8??? WOW!!!

But a major WHOO HOO!!!!!!!!!! about the not throwing up! Here's hoping that trend continues for a while!

I still can't believe my child is soon to be 1.

Aw, thanks!

Yeah, lots of teeth! The bottom two are in, and the other six are on the way (four on top, two more on the bottom). It's pretty cute...we can start to see what her toothy smile will look like.

The not-vomiting thing has been great. Fingers crossed it was a weird phase that she's grown out of. It was pretty stressful, and indeed messy.

When is Em's birthday? Early July, right? Are you having a massive keg party?

Any word from Jewel?

Oh I bet it was stressful watching her vomit all the time!! I really hope she's past it now.

Em's birthday is July 3rd (2 weeks from yesterday, OMG!). Nothing huge planned - just a get together at my mom's house with family and close friends, including a 'smash cake' for her. We considered doing something bigger but realized that'd be a lot of grief for us over something Emily won't really remember.

I'm still kinda surprised that Chas' mom hasn't even mentioned coming over, or, to my knowledge, acknowledging the fact that she'll be 1 soon. I know she's going to have to get one of her knees replaced soon so her mobility isn't great, but dang. I guess just further proof that I will never 'get' that woman.

You guys have big b-day blowouts planned?

Yeah - calling Jewel - where are thee???
