I refused IVs and other things with my first. I snuck in cookies with my son's birth. Thank goodness! I checked in between noon and 1 pm and didn't start having contract until 8 pm. I had him at 10:45 pm. I read somewhere that there's some study saying eating while you're in labor can knock off 4-5 hours. Not sure where that came from, but I sure enjoyed my cookies and was lucky I didn't puke.

I'm pretty sure I was told not to eat once labor started, but when I'm in pain, I have no appetite. I was sick a few times during labor, but I thought it was from the epidural.

So, Mad-Ag hasn't been in great shape over the last few weeks. She's had two colds and has been throwing up nearly every day, about once a day. I'd attributed it to her cold (mucous...gross, I know), and then another cold, but it was getting ridiculous, so I took her to the pediatrician yesterday. (Unfortunately, she didn't see Dr. Dreamy McDorky, although I said hello as I walked by him in the hallway. His high-waistedness seems to have improved!) The doctor thinks she may have developed a sensitivity to regular (milk-based) formula, so we're trying soy formula. So far so good...her last upchuck was yesterday morning, before the formula switch, and overall, she seems better and is spitting up less. In another day or two, we should have a better idea of whether that's the culprit. I hope so, because it's an easy solution, and she seems to like it.

How's everyone? Jewel, I'm sure you look lovely in your maternity swimwear!

Glad to here she is doing better! Milk allergies are no fun, but a lot of kids grow out of them by the time they are 5. I have always had breathing problems from milk and figured out that overly processed yumminess like cheese and chocolate is a very subtle allergic reaction compared to over unprocessed dairy.

BTW, anyone believe the study they had come out 6 months ago about pregnant women needing to avoid peanuts because prenatal exposure can cause allergies for the baby? :crying: PB&J was all I could eat the first couple months - hope this kiddo is ok!!!

The last thing I read, peanut butter was fine. I sure hope so, because I lived on it for about the first six months. I had a very queasy pregnancy, and peanut butter was one of the few things I could stomach. That and trail mix (with peanuts!).

Julie, I'm glad Ag is doing better....that sounds scary :( It's no fun when they are sick, and I've had to put Nick on special formula too :( Hope she feels better!

Jewel, I dunno about pb, but I sure hope large coke slurpees don't do anything to the fetus, cos I had one every day up until 6 mos. Prolly why I developed GD, LOL.

(oh Good Lord, I just typod 'coke' in the most embarrassing way...thank God I caught it before posting!)

I, too, hope Mad-Ag does better now. I feel fortunate that Emily hasn't had a reaction to anything we've put down her gullet. Having a dog who licks her toys unbeknownst to us could possibly be having a GOOD effect on her as it has built up her tolerance.

I had not heard that about peanuts during pregnancy. I don't recall eating copious amounts but I certainly didn't avoid them. I think this is just another 'let's scare the living ####### out of PG ladies' tactic. And honestly, it doesn't make sense to me. Don't you build up tolerances to things by being exposed to them (hence the whole idea behind allergy shots)? And maybe that is why Em isn't allergic to milk. I couldn't drink enough when I was pg. LOL.

Thanks, ladies. Mag-Ag hasn't thrown up since switching to soy. Yay! I feel like sort of a ditz, but I hadn't even thought of that as the culprit. I love milk (and drank a fair amount of it while pregnant), and there's no lactose intolerance in either of our families, that we know of. From what I've read, it's a common sensitivity in babies and most will outgrow it.

And...she has four top teeth coming in! She's had so many things wrong with her the last few weeks, I kinda forgot about teething. I had a peek up there, and the top two, and one on either side, are visible! I can feel one w/ my finger (I believe the right lateral incisor) and see the other three. Good grief! Poor Limita!

Oh man! That's proof that Emily really IS slow with her teeth! Still only two on the bottom coming in - and those didn't emerge until about 2 weeks ago.

I hope she overcomes that sensitivity. I wonder if her system being all out of whack with teething isn't helping matters?

I think this is pretty early, especially for the lateral incisors (notice how I'm an expert now that I've just looked it up on the interWebz)! But of the four I can see, the lateral one is the furthest along, and I can feel the ridges with my fingertip. The bottom two started coming in when she was close to four months, which is on the earlier side of average. I think there's a huge range w/ teeth. My friend's one-year-old (she turned 1 last month) is only just getting her two top front teeth.

Also, Limita's almost getting herself into a sitting position, and she's started doing a sort of awkward crawl. It's pretty uncoordinated and usually ends with her collapsing, but man! She's much more advanced than I was. My mother said I sat up by myself at around 8 months, crawled a bit later, and walked at 14 months. Jon was walking at 11 months (we have video evidence), so I think Limita is her father's daughter. I'm pretty sure she's teething a lot earlier than I did too.

Yeah, it's funny how they can take after one parent more than the other for these things. My mom said I walked pretty early-ish, but I had my older sister to mimic and follow around whereas Em doesn't. But she's definitely on my late-to-teethe schedule...!

You will get some good giggles out of her trying to figure out sitting and face planting instead. (Provided she face plants into something cushy, of course!!!)

Feeling like 'the thread killer'.

But of course not!

How's elder-stateswoman Em doing?

Limita's still doing well on her new soy formula. She's also sitting up for longer periods and is ready to crawl (at least in her head!). I can see that her movements are becoming more coordinated, but rolling and lunging forward are still her main methods of locomotion. Unfortunately, she (we?) is experiencing something of a sleep regression, although I'm happy to report that this time, we actually have a situation to regress from. I'm hoping it's because she's eating more (growth spurt, maybe?).

In other news, starting next Wednesday, Madeleine will move into the "older" infant room at daycare/preschool! It's for babies who are crawling, or close to crawling. Our little girl is growing up so fast! Taylor will be moving up too.

Fine, thanks Empress! :) She has learned how to feed herself - a little slow on that one we thought!! She is almost constantly on the move. Still some odd sleep patterns but I blame teething for that. Mostly she sleeps through the night, but then this morning, I heard her chattering away as I was leaving for the office. Not sure if Chas hauled her out or left her to it (sometimes she will go back to sleep). She slept through last night's severe storms but wakes up when the house is almost dead silent - go figure!!

Limita could well be having a growth spurt, hence the sleep regression. I found a chart somewhere detailing when they had growth spurts but I'm not sure where that was.

At least she gets to move to the new room with her 'boyfriend' - hopefully an easier transition that way for them both.

I have a cold :( so not feeling well today. My folks are keeping her for a bit today while Chas installs a new light/fan in our bathroom. I wish they'd be there when I got home so I could just crawl into bed, but alas...!

Hi Mommies!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TRACY!!!!!

Nick just cut his 5th tooth! He also has a bit of a cold. We've been teaching him how to swim, too! He likes the water...I do believe he got his cold cos this one day when we got out of the pool, it was a bit breezier than normal - not chilly, but it was a little uncomfy getting out.

He's been awesome...he crawls like a maniac, is always blabbering away at stuff, and the other week, we were on the floor...I was laying on my back, he was sitting by my head. He leaned over twice, put his hand on my head, and 'kissed' my forehead!!! Aww, my heart exploded into a million pieces. Of course, he goes in for a kiss by opening his mouth as wide as possible and then slobbering all over me LOL.

This morning, he kissed me on the lips, but he kinda puckered. Or he was just sucking cos he's cutting a tooth. Meh, either way, I'll take it, lol.

Ok, so two updates:

Nick cut his 5th tooth two days ago :)

AND

HE SAID MAMA!!!

Now, I guess we're going to count this as his first 'official' word. Back in January or so, he said 'hi' a few times. We weren't sure if he said it purposely though, or it was just babbling. Then the other week, he did the dadadaddadaddadad babble in the pack n play. But yesterday, he said MAMA. We first heard it on the monitor before I went in to get him up. We were laying in bed, then he said 'MAMA', and we both looked at each other and were like 'did he just say mama?????' and then he did it again. Then one 'MOM'

So we thought 'hey cool' but it's not like he knows MAMA is me, right?

Oh, lemme backstep for a second. He knows his own name. And everyday, I touch his chest and say 'Nicholas', then I touch mine, and say 'Mama' then I touch Scott's and say 'Dada'. Nick gets a kick out of it.

So yesterday afternoon, he was in his pack n play, and I was on the couch. I had moved the pack n play to touch the couch...I was laying on it, he was in the pnp, and I was touching the edge of the pnp. We both wound up falling asleep for about 20 minutes. Then I wake up to Nick slapping my hand screaming 'MAMA!' until I opened my eyes.

He said it several times to me yesterday, and every time he did, he would smile, giggle, and actually try to hug or cuddle me. He was also exceptionally 'needy' in wanting affection from me.

So did he mean it? Who knows? LOL
