Maybe Mom's Day isn't that huge in the UK? I dunno. I at least expected maybe an hour to have a bubble bath or something, but oh well. Takes the onus off me to come up with something big for Father's Day I guess.

 My husband's response to if we're doing anything for mother's day: "You're not my mother." I felt like smacking him upside the head with a frying pan - that urge comes frequently now that I'm in the third trimester.

We did end up taking my mom out to lunch. I'm not big on celebrating anyways. Plus, my bday usually falls on or near Father's Day and I've joked that he can't have that weekend. Maybe he took me seriously.

BTW, Thanks for the list! We had a friend give birth a full 4 weeks early this weekend. It made me realize I better get a pack of diapers and something like a playpen w/ bassinet for the baby to sleep in before the end of the month. I am fully stocked up on gender neutral clothes.

Yes - and get that hospital bag packed, too! I waited until I was about 38 weeks to do that, and it was giving hubby fits. I'm usually over prepared so he was really surprised. It was as if I couldn't get my head around what I'd need.

Emily - the cougar!

I hope you ladies had a nice Mother's day. Mine was just so-so. Got a card from Chas on Saturday and had lunch out with my family. Maybe Mom's Day isn't that huge in the UK? I dunno. I at least expected maybe an hour to have a bubble bath or something, but oh well. Takes the onus off me to come up with something big for Father's Day I guess.

I get the impression that it's not as big a deal in the UK. We went out for brunch w/ my mother, sister, bro-in-law, and my mother's friend. If we hadn't had my mother to consider, I'm not sure we would have done much of anything. Madeleine got me a card, a hummingbird feeder, and two double-walled tumblers that are supposed to look like fast-food drink cups. Jon took one of them to work this morning. Jon has said he doesn't want anything for Father's Day. He's such a grump. I'm sure "we'll" get him a little something, then I'll insist that we take him to a sports bar that has my favorite beer. I'm looking forward to celebrating Father's Day again, tho (my dad died in '98).

Maybe it isn't. I really had just planned on buying hubby a 6 pack of his favorite brew (London Pride) and letting him do whatever he wants for Father's day. Which is still more than I got! I had to do chores around the house and got up quasi early thanks to the dog. I N E V E R get time to myself. He gets almost every Saturday to himself while I take Emily to my parents' house for a visit.

Hi Ladies!

I had a great MD! Scott woke me up with breakkie, and gave me a massage...took care of Nick the whole morning too! He gave me two cards...one from him, and one from Nick. Made them on the computer too, so they had pictures of Nick on them. They were really gorgeous and made me cry! Then he made a 'certificate' for being the Awesomest Mom Ever and even bought non toxic ink for Nick to 'sign' it with his handprint.

My mom & dad (mom wrote most of it) wrote me this gorgeous card that had me crying, too. About how her 'baby' now has a baby and how I've joined the ranks of Motherhood, etc. It was gorgeous.

My dad made us all a prime rib dinner...we hate going out on MD cos you're always shuffled like cattle everywhere.

We spent the day at my parents' house, and in the pool. Nick was awesome and didn't fuss at all...he loves the water!

We also skyped with Scott's parents, who sent me a gorgeous card, and it was really lovely.

I also got a few gifts as well! Nick got me a new coffee mug, Scott got me a Wonder Woman tshirt, lol...and my parents bought me perfume. Scott's parents sent me flowers, and his sister sent me this beautiful card. Got loads of eccards from his extended family as well, which is really nice, thoughtful, and loving.

Gave some too...bought little trinkets for my mom & Scott's mom...I also gave them pic collages of Nick, and since Scott's 'certificate' was so cool, I copied them for both grandmothers, lol.

________

Jewel, I saw an email in my inbox and thought of you: I dunno if you can see this:

if you can't see that, I googled:

You can win your registry, as well as some money too, I think.

Lisa, that sounds like a great Mother's Day! Jon gave me a card from Madeleine and wrote "Mummy" on the envelope in kid letters. It was pretty funny.

I'm taking my mudduh to the Phoenix Symphony (yes, we actually have a symphony orchestra!) Red Violin concerto the weekend after next as a sort of belated Mother's Day prezzie. I've been listening to a fair amount of metal lately, so it will be a nice change. Of course, this is all about me.

Tracy, if it makes you feel any better, Jon took a two-hour nap Sunday afternoon. It must have been the exhaustion of having brunch with my family!

Eh, it wouldn't be us otherwise.

I would have loved if Chas had picked out a card for me 'from' Emily. But like I said, I guess its just not that big of a day to them. Oh well - at least I know to expect to be underwhelmed in the coming years.

That's funny about his nap - it should have been YOU though!!

So cute that your husbands got you little gifts from the baby. Some guys get it!

Thanks for the link Lisa! I will look into it. That would be so neat.

Tracy, hopefully no bags to pack as long as I make it to 37 weeks. Instead I have a list of things I need to gather for home. Like snacks I want during labor, puke bucket, and a couple other small things. It's all very gross.. but that's birth!!!

I have found the perfect Father's Day gift already and I bought it today. It's a plush Xbox controller with a rattle that I found on Etsy. Genius piece of art. My husband never stops playing xbox so I thought it'd be funny. Other than that it's my bday the day after that hallmark holiday. (I'm only a little bitter about having to share the weekend.)

We might go do something fun to celebrate that weekend, like maybe go stay in a hotel Sunday night. A hotel with a pool, of course, so I can float around in my big black maternity swimsuit and make whale sounds.

That is so cool...my husband is the same, I think I'll buy one too.

Being a regretsy fan, I lolled at the seller's use of the word 'whimsical'....at least she spelled it right though, lolz

Btw, thx ladies, it was an awesome MD :)

OMG - WORD to that one! I wish someone had told me that it wasn't wise to eat once you started going into labor. I was a hungry PG lady - despite the contractions kicking me in the junk - so I ate a full dinner around 6 pm. I regretted that about 5 hours later when I started puking.

This is one of MANY things I plan to tell my coworker who is now 8 weeks pg with her first. What to expect my #### - more like WHAT PEOPLE DO NOT TELL YOU. I ought to write a book.

I hope you guys have a good 'Hallmark holiday' weekend - sounds like a plan on the hotel thang!!! :D

You know what I just realized? I didn't eat during labor. I actually recall them not allowing me to eat, cos I remember having ice chips. Meh, now I'm not sure why I didn't eat, but I didn't. So I wasn't sick.

Cos reading this, I'm like 'puke bucket??'

Well my damn labor was so long, I was famished by the time I ate dinner, which was at 7 pm. I started actually having contractions and pain around 6 am (and didn't have her until 1:49 pm the next day). But still - no one told me that I probably shouldn't eat. Or if I did to have something bland like soup or crackers.

Yeah, mine was from midnight on Monday morning to 12 noon on Tuesday. I honestly don't rememeber eating or drinking...I remember they gave me ivs and ice chips. I thought it was jacked up, lol...and my mouth was sooooo dry!

I'm going to have to ask my mom and Scott, they were in the room the whole time...because I honestly cannot remember now, lol.
