Damn!!!

Yeah hubby and I discussed that last night. He said he can see where he will not be able to get ANYthing done around the house all day other than constantly watching her. Not that he minds per se, but I know what he means. My weekends will be challenging too, as that's the only time I have to get thing done! Thankfully my folks want to see her most Saturdays so that will be my only saving grace.

Aw! We were just talking last night about how babyproofing is going to be a project when Mag-Ag starts crawling. I didn't expect her to be so mobile now, but she's rolling all over the place. And she has her first tooth! Lots of drool and fussiness.

Do you guys have a playpen?

Yep, we have a pack and play but now that she CAN get around, she doesn't seem to like the p&p quite so much! LOL It 'constricts' her movement, but of course that is the only place we can really put her to go the bathroom or do whatever else we have to do. That or the highchair.

They used to have these things years ago that you could set up on the floor around a large space to 'pen' them in. They were a few feet high and rigid. Sort of like this but not as high or 'gate like'. I have a photo of me and my sister within it on our old living room floor. We always called it a play pen but now, a play pen is most commonly known as a pack and play.

Oh yes, I'm using the old-skool term (playpen). I think we had something like that too. Of course, given that this was the 70s, it was probably made out of rusty barbed wire or something.

LOL I don't remember the rusty barbed wire part. I think it was more like some chunky cardboard covered w/ plastic. I never would have thought that I'd wished my mom had saved it!

Oh, right. Re: barbed wire, I must have been thinking of the high chairs!

Here's a pic of me and my dad on my first birthday. I wish they still made high chairs that groovy! But maybe with better materials and vinyl that didn't separate into shards.

 That's for sure!!

I really don't want to turn into a massive germophobe for Emily. Hell I ate dirt and lived to tell about it! LOL.

I have a vivid memory of eating dirt because it resembled chocolate ice cream and didn't taste too bad. I also remember eating live ants that were crawling all over the hood of our car. I'd squash them between my fingers and then enjoy the crunch. I must have been about 3.

You ladies crack me up!

Nick was sick last week, his first cold. He was pretty miserable, and in turn, actually got me and Scott sick as well. He was also still sleeping in the cradle in our room. Scott was against it, but I couldn't seem to 'cut the cord' so to speak. I knew the move was imminent, but as he wasn't sitting up yet or anything like that, I wanted to prolong the move as long as poss. The nursery is soooo far away  I mean it's on the other side of the house! hah.

Anyways, since I knew a move was coming, I'd put him down in his crib for his naps, so that he could familiarize himself with everything.

Ok, so back to last week: he was sick, miserable, congested, crying, whiny, not wanting to eat, etc. I put him down in the cradle, and he grabs the railing and pulls his head up over it! So not only did he get sick for the first time, but he was officially evicted from our room. i felt so bad for him - like, not knowing what was going on with how he felt, then he gets exiled to his own room. I wound up staying in his room the first few nights, and actually wound up totally awake for 57 hours! He would wake every hour, let out a cry, and then just go back to sleep. But I would go to him and put my hand on his back to let him know I was there, so I think that helped soothe him during this transition.

He took to his new digs really well, and I'd dare say he loves it. And now when he wakes up, he actually plays with the stuff on the rails, or he'll just roll around, instead of immediately crying for food.

He also is sitting up now on his own! He's also about to crawl anyday now, which is really exciting. And as Tracy says, I don't want to be a germophobe either, but at the same time, I don't want him crawling on a floor that I walk on, lol. So I've been putting blankets down when he plays on the floor. Now that he's starting to show signs of crawling, we are going to have all the carpets steam cleaned, and then instill a 'no outside shoes' policy in the house. Which sucks, because I hate feet, lol...and I am grossed out when anyone asks me to take off my shoes to walk in their house. So we're thinking maybe just keep a few rooms shoe free, and leave the rest as normal.

Empress - I put Nick in a pack n play during the daytime. He seems to love it. I have one for my house, one for my mom's, and one in the trunk of the car. I guess I didn't grasp the 'pack' part of it, but the last thing I need with my limited schedule, is to be schlepping a pnp from place to place. As easy as they are, I'd rather have the two already set up so when I drop him off, the only thing I need to carry into my mom's is Nick.

Trace- I cannot believe how big Em has gotten. It seems like just yesterday we were both preggo, and now look at Em, such a little lady already!

Aww - thanks! She does kind of look like a little lady! They're both getting so big!! On Sunday, Em will be outside my body as long as she was in (9 months). LOL! Truly shocking!!!

As for the crawling - Chas scrubbed the kitchen floor and we regularly vacuum the carpet in the hallway and living room (and Chas is going to steam clean it once the warm weather takes hold). I just don't think crawling is exactly sanitary no matter where they do it. No thanks, I'm sure, to having a dog...!

It seems to me that now that we have kids, time is REALLY flying by.

On one hand, it seems like he's been here forever; our old life of no baby seems like a very distant memory. But on the other, it seems like we just brought him home. It was yesterday when he was so tiny that I had to use two inserts in his carseat. Now his feet hang off the edge.

Truly mindblowing stuff. But then again, I'm a mom n00b, lol

Hey, you and me both!!! I, too, can't believe we'll have to be buying another carseat soon! Though luckily ours goes up to 30 lbs - but that will not prevent her feet from lopping over the end!!

Hi, ladies

I hope things are well with youse.

Limita turned 5 months on Sunday. Her two bottom teeth are coming in, and she can now push herself up while she's on her tummy. I think crawling is still a ways off (I hope!). We're going to get our carpets cleaned next week, but mostly because they're getting kinda gross, and the baby will only be spending more time on the floor! As soon as she can sit up, we'll be using the pack & play more. We can't just plop her in the bouncy seat anymore because she's too squirmy, and I think even the swing has outlived its usefulness because as soon as I strap her in, she wants to turn over.

I have to say that the last five months have not flown by--in fact, in some ways, the time has dragged, but mostly because I'm so tired all the time--but the transformation is amazing. Five months ago, she was a shrieking tiny humanoid who couldn't see six inches past her face, and now she's rolling everywhere, laughing, grabbing and holding stuff, and chewing anything she can get her hands on. The sleep is better. Although she's still waking up very early (between 4 and 6), she does go to sleep more or less consistently, so we finally have an evening again. I think my mother said that we didn't do the 12 hours at a stretch thing until about 7 months. But I'll take 8-5 for the time being!

Lisa, did you try the NoseFrida? Limita is finally over her cold(s)! Which I picked up too, of course.

Oh yeah...Limita's legs are practically too long for 6-9 months PJs! She certainly isn't built like her muthuh!

And happy almost nine months to Em, the elder stateswoman of BBITO.

I second that emotion with the swing. Strapping her in it is fine but she's just constantly grabbing at her feet or leaning over so it really doesn't serve us much anymore. Funny how we spent nearly $130 on it and only got about 7 months use out of it. UGH! I see a garage sale in our future... I think you'll start finding the pack and play MOST helpful. Chas said Emily spent about 2 hours in it yesterday happily playing and talking away. He was grateful for the break.

I agree about the transformation, too. It's really fun to watch them start to experience and further explore their world. Things that didn't seem possible when all you did was hold her, feed her, burp her and wait for the next nap. Parenting is not for the faint of heart, believe me - I have learned that. It's a heck of a lot of hard work!!

Am SO glad Limita is getting more regular with her sleep patterns. 8-5/6 is more than a LOT of parents get so I think she's doing great. Having your evenings back is really nice too!! I bet she'll sleep in longer stretches once her tummy can hold more and she doesn't wake up so hungry. We've had to push Emily's bedtime back to 9. She is napping less so she tends to have a late nap (woke up from one at 6:30 last night!) - no way we could then expect her be ready for sleep again at 8. I kinda hate not having that hour to myself at night, but its what she needs so I'm happy to do it.

 Elder stateswoman! But I guess she is!! 9 month doc appointment set for Monday, so we'll see how she's grown. :D

Stupid n00b mom question - when is she supposed to be off formula? All I've found are articles saying you can introduce cow's milk slowly after 1 year but nothing about when to cut it out completely. Obviously I can ask the pedi but figured maybe you guys knew. :)
