(F) Pooky from me too

Congrats to your friend and his wife, Empress!

Nick is now about 28" and weighs 18 lbs...he'll be six mos on the 7th, and is already almost out of his size 2 shoes also! Jeez! Hubby is 6'3, wears a size 13 shoe, and I'm 5'6 - avg size 8 shoe, so we figured he'd be a tall boy, but jeez, if he's taller than 6'3 that's gonna be something, lol.

Genes are a weird thing, ay? I imagine that Madeleine will probably be average height. I know Jon won't be pleased if she ends up taller than he. Actually, Jon's sister is about 5'7" (they have different dads) and was off-the-charts tall until adolescence. I think they were expecting that she would be very tall as an adult, but she reached her adult height around age 12, and that was that.

Re: my friends' new baby, I've seen pics and video, and she is so cute. I think they're going home today. I hope it didn't sound like I was suggesting that a new baby would somehow erase or even lessen the agony of their loss. I'm just happy that they're able to feel joy again, which was probably impossible to imagine two years ago.

5'7 as a 12 year old is quite tall!!! But it's a good height for an adult. It's funny.I'm 5'6 and I used to feel super tall. (btw, mom is 5'3 at best, Dad is 6'1) ..I think all my friends are short, lol. But pre-baby, I lived in 4-5 inch platforms all the time, and I didn't care how tall it made me, lol. One time, I hurt my foot and had to be in flats, and all my friends were like 'Holy #######, you're kinda short!' Short? lol no

I've always been attracted to really tall guys, but funnily enough, my two major exes were 5'10...so it was always a stuggle with my shoes, cos I didn't wanna be taller than them. Then I met Scott  So I can wear whatever shoes I want, but now with the baby, it's pretty much flats all the time. My feet are still fat and I can't get back into my shoes w/o them killing me!

(eta...S's kinda odd...his mom's like 5'4-5'5, same w his sister. His dad is 6'...where he came from, I don't know)

Re: your friends, I didn't read it that way at all....my heart goes out to all parents who have to deal with that, I don't know how they do it. Bravo to them for having the courage to 'take another chance'.

I, too, applaud your friends, Empress. And I know that the memory of their first child will never leave them - I can't imagine that, either. UGH! :(

I am glad they have a new bundle of joy to love and fawn over, though. :)

In other Facebook news, a guy I worked with a few years ago just had a kid about a month ago. He is from Australia and has since moved back. His Facebook update today noted that the baby has gained 1040 grams since birth. I responded with, "Grams? What kind of commie measurement is that?" (Bear in mind that we worked together at a research institution; he's a scientist, and I worked on the insitution's periodic reports and a journal.) He didn't seem to get that I was making a joke, albeit lame, and went on a mini-rant about universal healthcare and the Australian life expectancy being 3 years longer than in the U.S.

Easy there, tiger, try to get some sleep!

Lord!!!

And I'm still not sure national health is something I would brag about. Although the Aussie system is probably different than the UKs.

He's a serious fellow, it would appear. I should cut him some slack, I suppose. I wasn't exactly at my best when Limita was a month old.

Yeah - I'd just go in there and say you were joking and maybe your wit doesn't translate as well to the written page or something.

Emily will be 8 months old on Thursday. Hard to believe, I swear!! Of course hubby still has not given up the idea of having another one. I hate to tell him, but I have. :( I just hate my job lately and if I had the ability to completely change careers right now, I would. Having another baby wouldn't help that any - in fact, would make it even more impossible. UGH.

If that were the case, I think the topic would have expanded to include much more than the metric system, death panels, and health care. Google Street View, for example.

I'm sorry to hear that things still suck at work. Is this a result of that dude getting promoted during your maternity leave? Or are you tired of the job generally?

This is a whole new turn of affairs. The guy I trained to do my job while I was on leave turned out to be a real stand up guy. And there's plenty of work to keep us both busy so we barely ever work on the same things anymore.

I've been put on a new project ever since I came back from leave. I'm working in conjunction with a guy who was brought here from India for 11 months as a 'high performer'. I knew right then that meant that he was ambitious but boy did I underestimate it!

We are essentially peers, although we report to different managers. Without going into boring, IT detail, he kept doing something that both me and my team lead asked him not to do, which was essentially try to do my job FOR me (quite disrespectful if you ask me). I even told him once to his face that I wouldn't do the same to him out of RESPECT to him. Then, it happens again less than a week later. This time, I complained to my manager, who talked to his manager - when his manager talked to him, of course he did nothing but blame me. LOL

Last week I pulled nearly 55 hours of work on this project; Friday afternoon, his manager sends out an email to everyone telling us that she had just promoted him. I have at least 10 years seniority on him and while I am not a perfect employee, I am at the very least NOT a lying snake in the grass - yet he is who we choose to promote. I know the promotion wasn't up to my manager - and she is quite pissed off by it - but still. It speaks volumes as to who gets ahead around here and who does all the work for no reward. I'm just tired of constantly getting the shaft.

Sad part is I actually like the work itself but now I can't hardly stomach being here anymore. My neck and shoulders are in constant stress knots. But how to get out of it and still support and keep insurance for me, hubby and Emily is beyond me at the moment.

I'm sorry to hear that, Tracy, what a drag. I hate that kinda sh!t! Whose decision was it to promote him? Is there anything your manager can do? Grrr...

Things are well with Limita, our grown-up four-month old! She missed daycare all last week because of a cold, very likely RSV, which led to an ear infection. She seems to like the antibiotic, tho...it tastes like bubble gum and is bright pink. She's doing a whole lot better now, and her appetite is returning to normal. Miss Piggy is back! We missed her.

I have to say, there are few things I dread more than going to the pediatrician's office. The office staff are (usually) surly and not that bright, there are sick kids there and I worry about Limita picking up something, and we (she) have shots to look forward to. So, I've talked myself into having a crush (harmless, of course) on the pediatrician we've seen the last three times. The guy is in his fifties and sorta dorky, but he's got that certain somethin'.
