Oh yeah, I hope I didn't sound like 'wean her now or be damned!' LOL. Obviously even if you decide to wean, you're still going to have to use it some for your OWN SANITY! My MIL got all over me about using the paci in the car to soothe Emily to sleep when she was about 6 weeks old (they cause colic, doncha know??!) and I said if you have any other ideas how to keep her quiet, you be sure to let me know! But it was shortly after that where Em stopped taking it all together.

I would love for us to start using this thread as a 'mommy catch all.' I feel more at home here, too, than the OT baby thread - and certainly more supported by the ladies here.

All are welcome, really. We just want fun banter and helpful suggestions/solutions.

And its ok Lisa - we won't kick you out even though Nick isn't a half Blighter. :P Do you find his toothy grin to be cuter than the 'gummy one' or? :)

They're not totally in just yet, so you can't really see them all that much when he smiles...they are hidden under the spit bubbles

I am game for making this THE thread to go to....remember when I posted the idea that we use the UK forum? Before that, it was a ghost town, but thanks to all of us back then, it is what it is today :D

Was it Emily that didn't like car rides AT ALL in the beginning? Has she changed her mind yet?

BTW, Justine, almost 17 weeks.. not far at all. I suppose that's ok though, there are a million things I need to get done between now and the birth. Anxious about the 20 week scan, really want to make sure everything is perfect.

I want to apol for being MIA in this thread...I've been sidetracked with posting baby stuff elsewhere, but truth be told, even though my boy's not British, I feel much more at home here.

Lisa, this is such a happier place. I've been on another site, but am bored with the people being catty and lame. I also spend a lot of time on a Dave Ramsey kind of forum. I had friends that I thought were lame when they mentioned DR. Then I got sucked in when I stumbled across other people posting their budgets and how they were successfully tweeking that system to fit their situations. It's cultlike. :alien:

The VJ UK forum is still the best though! I never stay away too long.

She has never minded car rides too bad. But when she was a little younger, she'd get fussy after, say, 10 or 15 minutes in the car seat. We'd either have to feed her or give her the paci - which normally knocked her out. She generally just sits there and looks around now for the most part, but wants to be entertained if she's in there longer than 20 mins or so.

*Hugs on the 20 week scan* You'll be fine!

Update for Nick: he's cut two teeth, he's found his feet, babbling, and now has even displayed learning several things! Will write more when I have more time!

Aw...! Has he had a hard time teething? Mad-Ag has been drooling a lot lately, but no sign of teeth. It would be a bit early, but you never know.

You didn't come across that way at all! I'd been of two minds about the bink from the beginning, although I have to admit, sometimes it seemed to calm her down when nothing else would. Honestly, I first started to think about weaning her off it because of car rides. Often I'm the only one in the car with her, and if it falls out, she's outta luck. More recently, it's middle-of-the-night falling out that's becoming the issue. I figured now might be a good time to wean off the bink not just because she's pretty young, but also because she's started chewing (gnawing?) on things and might miss it less. I'm not sure if this is true, but I read somewhere that babies tend to sleep better once they're off the bink because rather than cry until someone plunks it back in, they put themselves back to sleep.

So, good news and bad news. The good news is that Mad-Ag has now gone 36 hours bink-free! The bad news is that she woke up last night hungry at 2 a.m. and ate 5 oz. I think phasing out the night feeding is going to take a while! When Limita's hungry, there's no consoling her...except with a bottle, that is.

It's a lot of drooling, a lot of crying, and violently rubbing his fist on his gums. Also, sucking on anything that comes into contact with his mouth..he was in my arms last week or so, when I felt a stinging on my shoulder...turns out, he gave me a little hickey on my shoulder, lol.

I've had a lot of mommy advice ranging from freezing carrots (because they retain the cold better than those teething rings), to giving bagel 'skin' to rub on his teeth (yeah, not so much), and also homeopathic teething pills. This one woman even told me about a dissolvable tablet that you stick under their tongue. I did try the carrot, though.

I asked my ped and she basically said a bit of oragel and occassional tylenol if he's REALLY bad, but other than that, there was nothing that I could do that's going to prevent all his pain. She said 'all baby animals teethe, and unfortunately, he's going to have to just get through it.

My mom ran into a mom and a 7mo old in the supermarket...baby had FIVE TEETH already. #######? lol

Yep. My pedi called that 'self soothe'. Will save you TONS of grief down the road once she can begin to do that (paci free). Of course, a hungry baby is another matter entirely! I'm sure as both she and her stomach grow, you will see this start to go away.

I don't want to, but sometimes these things end up being found out during the scan anyways. If possible, I REALLY want my husband to be the first to know after the birth.

Lisa, that is crazy about the teeth! I know some kids are born with them, but it just seems too soon!

I personally didn't expect the second one so soon after the first! Hopefully there's not a 3rd on the way so that the poor boy gets a respite from mouth pain...I'm sure it sucks!

It's suck an exciting time for you - makes me almost miss being pregnant!

I boxed up all his clothes that don't fit, and I almost burst into tears, soppy cow, lol

Funny thing about pacis, Nick wouldn't take one at all. I actually thought it'd be good, so I kept trying to give it to him. He'd start, and then actually furrow his brow and look at me like 'nothin's comin outta this thing, #######?'

This is kinda fringe related to babies, but I just got an email from my MIL saying that they plan to retire to FLORIDA!!!! woooohooooooooo! Nick would be able to have both sets of grandparents! Let alone the fact that she and I could spend a lot more time together!

So over the moon, I'm actually at work, and upon reading it, I actually cried, hahahahaha

Posted

WOW that is awesome, esp. considering how much I know you like them.

Now you do realize if I got the same email from my MIL (insert Tennessee instead of Florida), I would have to off myself.
