Not at all! I found out with my son 9 years ago, but this one it really doesn't matter as long as we get a healthy one. We interviewed a bunch of midwives already and the birth center/home birth one we are probably going with said that it will be my husband's job to announce the gender. I think I will make sure the backup hospital CNM knows that they will be punched in the face if that doesn't happen - hehe!

:D How exciting!! My friends still recall the look of amazement - combined with shock and awe - that hubby had on his face when he came out in the hallway to tell them it was a girl. My one friend said she had never seen such an expression on anyone's face before - it really endeared him to her in a new way. :) So they better let your hubby have that same moment!!!

Aw, thanks! I remember you mentioning that your MIL's visit was something of a horror show. I know I really can't complain. My MIL is quite a sweet lady, if maddening. She's talking about coming back in March. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Yeah, she's a nightmare. I really can't say many nice things about her, other than she gave birth to an incredible man. (How he turned out to be incredible after being raised by her and her husband - his quite dysfunctional step father - I'm sure I don't know.)

Even if they're sweet (like yours seems to be :) - it still isn't fun to have ANYone in your house for a length of time so I understand. I'm just glad she's sweet!!

HAHAHA! I love that flower behind her head. She is going to grow up and wonder what you were thinking, but I think that is the cutest thing ever. Where did you get that? Did it come with the carseat?

She is so adorable, how do you ever put her down?

Edited when I realized that wasn't a carseat.

Yeah, isn't it horrendous? The flower is a sort of headrest that came with the seat. The seat is pretty useful, but boy it is garish! My mother's friend bought it for us as a baby shower gift. When it's not in use, Jon hides it behind the couch because he can't stand to look at it. We've received an avalanche of pink stuff. People just can't resist when they are told you're having a girl! I'm not particularly fond of pink, but I guess it's not all about me. :hehe:

The flower behind her head is still making me laugh hard enough to nearly fall off my seat. I can't wait until my next baby arrives so that I can put it in ridiculous outfits and such. Halloween with a baby is going to be the best time ever. I don't think I ever bought my son a costume before he was 18 months because I was so skint when I had him. This time is going to be a lot more fun. :D

This is what my husband came up with when I said we can do something completely ridiculous with a baby at Halloween.

Realizing that we both have odd senses of humor suddenly has me worried a bit for our children.

I saw the flower and thought "that's not very Joyce"

I imagine if Joyce had designed the headrest it would look like one of Afro Ken's wigs

I'm gonna go for Star Ken! Yes!

Joyce - she is SO cute...flower head or no. :P

People do enjoy giving pink things, don't they? Eh I don't mind. I'm just grateful to receive any and all gifts for her.

Hubby just came in and told me that actress Jennifer Connelly is 40 and pg with her third child. I said uh yeah, she can afford nannies. Seriously. I don't know how I could ever do this again. I'm old (40 in May!) and wore out.

Aw, thanks! I don't mean to sound ungrateful. I'm just not sure I'll ever put her in that pink tutu.

Re: second kid thoughts, Jon is definitely on the no side of that one, and he maintains it's because of his age (41). I wouldn't be opposed to it--notice how quickly I seem to have forgotten how miserable the pregnancy was?--mostly because I think it would be nice for Madeleine to have a sibling, and they'd be close in age. She'd also have someone to play with. I have two siblings, and they're both crazy in completely different ways, but I love them and am glad I have them. Of course, now isn't the time to broach the subject, given that we're both wiped out from caring for a 2-month-old. Hmmm...

A friend of mine (the one whose husband made the comment that my body image would totally change! like, totally!) is also turning 40 this year, and her husband has been lobbying for kid #2. This is the guy who said he really didn't want a kid initially. He's about three years younger than she is, I think. Anyhoo, she really has no interest in another kid. When I was expecting, she was the single largest donor of maternity clothes and baby stuff, and made it clear she didn't expect any of it back. In fact, she encouraged me to pass on the stuff as soon as possible. I guess this was to send a message to dad.

I love the green outfit!! I'm also not a pink person. I have decided that this baby is wearing white onesies for the first few months since it is coming in the summer. I have also told my husband that if it is a girl her wardrobe will be mostly black with cute little black and pink bows to KY Jelly into her hair.

I wear jeans and a nice black top almost every single day. It makes laundry so much easier. It's a nice simple, classic, and semi-elegant kind of look. Seriously, nothing is wrong with a black shirt or black dress, ever. ;) The kiddo could look super cute and the black could hide the drool.

How adorable!

I turn 40 this year and am still having the kid #1 debate.

If I might ask, is the debate with your dude, or with yourself?

My sister is turning 40 in June and still seems undecided. I do think she would like a kid and might have regrets in a few years if it doesn't happen. I am gently encouraging her to get on it (so to speak). I gave her a bunch of my leftover ovulation test strips. I guess that wasn't all that subtle. But she did take them! Her dude doesn't seem to have an opinion on the matter, so at least that's not an issue!

Jon is looking into a collection of black onesies. I think Mad-Ag will look good in black!

I dress like a 12-year-old boy in about 1997, so I think there's a good chance Madeleine will have Etnies and Vans, at the very least.
