We found out this week that we are expecting a baby, my wife is about 5 to 6 weeks pregnant, and we have a due date of August 12th. :D:D:D

WOW congratulations, Andy!!!

We are happy to give any words of wisdom for pregnancy - or ask our significant others for the male perspective if you'd like. :)

Don't forget there are male perspectives here, too

And CONGRATULATIONS!!! Nice early Christmas present ;)

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself

We are also expecting in the summer time. Today we went to the CNM's and were able to see our blob with it's flickering heart beat. I had to mention it somewhere or explode as we are waiting until after Xmas to tell my family.

Has anyone gone ahead and gotten a UK passport for their newly arrived Brit baby? I'm reading through the "advice" and can't honestly make any sense of it, though that could just be the sleep deprivation kicking in... O_o

OMG - congratulations, Jewel!!! :) Are you guys going to find out what you're having? I'm glad we were surprised. I almost think I'd be surprised again if we decided to have another, though it may be more practical to find out the second time.

Gwenneh - we haven't gotten our LO her British passport. Mostly for $$ reasons. Hubby just became a USC and, with an elderly mom in the UK, I figure it makes more sense to go ahead and get his US passport, then worry about getting one or the other for LO. Mainly because we'd need it if we had to take her to the UK with us (if something happened to hubby's mom). Hell my passport still has my maiden name in it  but that's a lower priority than the other two for sure.

Basically he/she can get their UK passport at any time. Your child is already a British citizen by descent and you don't need to register or apply for citizenship. You merely need to apply for a british passport. However, getting a consular birth registration, while optional, is highly recommended as it creates a permanent record of the child's citizenship.

Not at all! I found out with my son 9 years ago, but this one it really doesn't matter as long as we get a healthy one. We interviewed a bunch of midwives already and the birth center/home birth one we are probably going with said that it will be my husband's job to announce the gender. I think I will make sure the backup hospital CNM knows that they will be punched in the face if that doesn't happen - hehe!

I'm SO happy to see this update - little M is just so adorable!! Love that jacket.

Believe me, I know how all consuming it is. It's as if you barely have time for anything but diapers, feedings, visitors and sleep (usually the baby's). I'm SO SO pleased that your MIL was that helpful and that you two got some well deserved sleep. If you want MIL horror stories to help make you feel better about the paci thing, message me. I've got MIL horror stories that will turn you white.

Miss ya around here!

Aw, thanks! I remember you mentioning that your MIL's visit was something of a horror show. I know I really can't complain. My MIL is quite a sweet lady, if maddening. She's talking about coming back in March. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

I think she looks like hubby! Am I right? lol

Yup, she's a mini-Limey! She has my ears, but that's about all I can see that's clearly from me. This isn't a bad thing. Now that I think of it, we have a robust appetite in common. It's nice to have food taste good again!

And congrats Andy, Jewel, and Gwen!

I'd write more but...believe it or not, the baby's crying! Doesn't she know it's rude to interrupt forum posting? She's nearly 8 weeks, for the love of Jessup!
