LOL yep! My parents and sister have been really good about taking her if something comes up, etc. or just wanting to spend time with her. But we kind of hate to ask unless it's something we just have to do without having a baby in tow (buying a new car was one such occasion!). May have to start asking people though!

Sort of off topic but - thought I'd mention that Chas passed his natz interview yesterday with flying colors. :D Now just waiting for the oath letter.

It was Emily's first road trip and she did REALLY well. Had little naps along the way, was interested with toys and things I had brought. Had her only real 'come apart' about a half hour from being at home (she had pooped her diaper so I can't say I blame her). She didn't go down until about 10:45 in the hotel that night, but she slept right through until I got out of the shower around 8 am. Not bad for a 4 month old baby in a strange place!! She's a good girl.

Packing for her was sort of a logistical challenge, but having a list to work from helped. Would have helped more if hubby had helped me either deal with her or pack for her (instead of answering emails), but alas! :bonk:

Oh, a stork party. What a great idea! LOVE demented lamb. lol

I'll be the 'bore of a mom' and report that Emily weighed 15 lbs 9.6 oz and was 25 1/2 inches long at her 4 month appointment. She was a champ with her shots (despite initially crying) and felt no ill effects the next few days (whew!!!).

Good for Emily! I knew a girl who had a 14 lb 14 oz baby AT BIRTH!! :crying:

Her daddy and I are doing well but we do struggle at times with the lack of 'me time' that either of us seem to have anymore. I think that's partially because we are so long in the tooth - we just got used to doing things for ourselves in our downtime and now we can't do that anymore. I am conscious of the fact that he's with her all day every day so he can only do things around the house when I am home (mostly on weekends); at the same time, I would like to have a little downtime on weekends where I'm not looking after the baby for the entirety of the two days after working 45 hours during the week. We'll figure it out but it's just been sort of a push and pull that neither of us expected.

Awwww. (((((((((HUGS))))))))))) I totally know how you feel with that. So hard.

Thanks Krikit. I think we do better than a lot of couples, but it can just be challenging sometimes. Esp. right now as my job is recently sucking the life force out of me. I just don't have anything left in the bucket for Chas and Emily once I get home. I'm ready for a day of pampering where I worry about nothing but myself - but can't justify spending that money.

I can justify it. You HAVE to take time out for yourself. It's essential to the quality you give back to your family. Otherwise you will burn out and you'll be no good to anyone. I'm serious. Take some time for yourself!

On a related note, I get really ticked when I see the length of time Americans spend at work, and going to and from work. Not to mention the small amount of time off for vacation, illness, and life events. It's sickening and mind-boggling at the same time.

Thanks I'll try. This weekend has been 100% with Emily while hubby sorts out our new (used) car. It hasn't been very relaxing but hey, that's part of being a parent!

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi, ladies

I hope everyone is well. I feel like I've fallen off the map! Caring for a newborn sure is consuming! Plus, the mother-in-law has been visiting from England for the last two weeks. Mostly she's been staying at my mother's but insisted on spending the night here (where she has slept on the couch) a few times to help us out by taking over the night shift. Initially Jon and I were reluctant to allow this because she's 68, but she really wanted to do it and is one of those people who can function on little sleep. She's also very good with babies--an exception might be her overreliance on the pacifier, which she attempts to use repeatedly when the baby clearly doesn't want it. Anyhoo, having her spend the night turned out to be a great idea because Jon and I got the best sleep we've had in weeks! (And in my case, months!)

Here is a pic of the wee one taken a few days ago:

I hope to check in more often soon. Madeleine has been sleeping for longer stretches (i.e., more than 2-3 hours) and is eating more at one feeding, so I'm hopeful that I'll be a little more functional.

Where am I?

I'm SO happy to see this update - little M is just so adorable!! Love that jacket.

Believe me, I know how all consuming it is. It's as if you barely have time for anything but diapers, feedings, visitors and sleep (usually the baby's). I'm SO SO pleased that your MIL was that helpful and that you two got some well deserved sleep. If you want MIL horror stories to help make you feel better about the paci thing, message me. I've got MIL horror stories that will turn you white.

Miss ya around here!

I can kinda see both! Though I'm sort of that way with all babies these days, because I find it the same with Emily. LOL So I'm probably not the best person to judge.

I've always been frightened of little girls because I've only ever been around little boys. She is darling though!! Maybe if I was around one as cute as she is I wouldn't have any issues. :luv:

WOW congratulations, Andy!!!

We are happy to give any words of wisdom for pregnancy - or ask our significant others for the male perspective if you'd like. :)
