So, it's been a long hard road, but I think we are in the home stretch. My fiance had her interview and embassy folks over in Japan say that we can get a visa. What happens now? Are they going to give her something soon and then she can fly over and we can finally get married? Or is there more red tape to cut???

First of all, CONGRATS!!!

Secondly, the CO must have told your fiancee what the next step is; if she didn't get the visa on the spot, they will probably mail her the passport and the packet that she should NOT OPEN. When she gets to the Port of Entry she will present that packet and the passport at the Immigration line. Those guys will open the envelope, ask her some basic questions (just like at the interview) and that's it. Good luck!

Congrats! Did they keep her passport? They should have given her instructions on what to do (ie, if she needs to come pick up the passport at a certain time or if it will be mailed.) You should also check the regional forums here to see how it worked for others who went through Japan. Congrats again!!!

The process after the final interview is on the paper the embassy gives out to beneficiaries at the time of their interview.

She is likely to get her passport and a brown envelope back via a mail in a week. Then she is free to enter the US with K-1 visa.

So once she get's the visa in the mail, she comes here, we get married and then we work on getting a green card right? How long will this visa allow her to stay here? Just long enough so we can get married?

Nope, once she's here she's here for good (or as long as you both want to live in the US :)) Basically once she comes in (has to be within 6 months from the day the visa was issued - it will have an expiration date on it) she will get an I-94 which is a paper they will staple in her passport at the airport when she lands. After that you have 90 days to get married. After that you apply for adjustment of status (ie, the green card.) She does not have to return to Japan after she gets here (nor should she until she either gets advance parole or the green card - otherwise she won't be allowed to come back in!)
