I would like to know if is true the interview is in English ? I am from Brazil, Rio de Janeiro.

If you want, but you can also have it in Portuguese because your K1 interview is going to happen in Brazil. I am not sure what the exact rules are for language, but the consulate always will give the option to have the interview in the dominant language of the area. For example, in Peru, Quechua is an official language in certain areas, but I do not know if you could opt for the interview in Quechua. Spanish, however, is an option and probably by far more common than English.

Choose whatever language you are most comfortable in is the best option...I do not believe that having it in English will greatly improve your chance at approval.

You should be offered a choice of English or the native language(s) of the country. It should make no difference on the ability to be approved. Alla was offered English, Russian or Ukrainian and even though she speaks fluent English she chose Russian. Then they asked her no questions!

My husband had his interview in Rio in Portuguese. They only wanted to know how he communicates with me since he does not speak English. I am fluent in Portuguese, so no problem. As long as you can communicate with your significant other, you don't need to worry about that affecting your approval. Tudo de bom!!

I was at L's interview in Rio, and the CO asked if we preferred English or Portuguese (in Portuguese), and I (the USC) requested it to be in English. That said, that only applies to the actual interview itself. The rest of it (arranging the documents with the CO in the back of the room, submitting the documents in the glass rooms and then getting the biometrics in those same rooms, is done in Portuguese.

My fiancée [now wife] had her interview in both languages. But the IO are kind to ask your preference.

Peace is the generous, tranquil contribution of all to the good of all. Peace is dynamism. Peace is generosity. It is right and it is duty." -- NAPF page on Oscar Romero

I was given the option of English and Portuguese and told the CO whichever she felt most comfortable in, she thanked me and said she'd rather interview me in English as her Portuguese wasn't too great. Only thing she said had to be done in Portuguese was to sworn me in.
