I thought I had all this figured out, but I really don't and i am getting really frustrated!

I am a current F-1 student (still in status) and I am about to marry my fiance (a US citizen)

First of all, with the I-693 form; when do we actually submit that? and how does that work? Do I go and see a civil surgeon before I send in my documents? and i have been reading about vaccination records, how do i get proof of vaccination?

Also, my fiance has not worked for months, about 4 months now, but I get a scholarship from my university, about 2000$ a month during the summer; and about 1800$ before taxes during the school semester. What do we need to submit with our I-864 form? Should we find a co-sponsor? How does that affect us?

We have a lot of pictures together, we had an account together, but we closed it a while ago when i was angry at him (i know :P ) so we don't have accounts together or anything. I also lived with him for a couple of months last year, but I had to get an apartment because I wanted to be closer to school and he was thinking about moving out of the area after graduation. What else can we use as proof of marriage. We have phone records; we talk everyday, and e-mails (but i don't know that I want immigration reading our e-mails)

Also, my birth certificate is torn, like almost beyond recognition. I can tape it together, but it doesn't look right. What can I do?

How long does this process take because I need to go for a school function out of the country next year (March) and I dont want to risk leaving the country, even with the I-131 form

I know these might sound like dumb questions, but I really need to know.

Thank you so much! Any other helpful tips would be accepted!

I-693 submitted with I-485. See Civil Surgeon prior to I-485 submittal.

husband will need to get a co-sponser.

proof of marriage - study the I-130 instructions, also review my list of what I did (for the I-130) , at http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=218775&st=0&p=3324240&hl=Rusticentry3324240

AOS from student visa can take up to 6 months, sometimes longer. Many ppl get it done within 4 months - you have no control over the timeframe, once the megaMondoHuge packet is submitted.

You are filing I-130 AND the I-485, right ?

Might be a good time to review the guide at http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide2

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

This form you submit it the same time you will submit I-485 (AOS), I 130 (the form your husband will fill in your behalf), i 131 (AP = paper that allows you to travel outside US) and i 765 (EAD = work authorization)

The vaccination you should obtain them from your home country; i am not sure if you did not use them anyway when you got your F 1 visa; in case that you can not obtain them, you can have them done now (waste of money but no choice if you do not come with them; if you have any health insurance

you can try to see if it covers them; do not mention that is for immigration purposes; if they are covered you can have the shots done and you go to the immigration surgeon with the record that you have them done; sometimes there are organizations that offer them at no /low cost; the same thing for the blood work (syphilis screening and HIV - i was reading that HIV is not requested anymore but i am not sure about it. Also this applies to the TB test. If you can do all those it comes much cheaper than in the immigration surgeon's office

Also, my fiance has not worked for months, about 4 months now, but I get a scholarship from my university, about 2000$ a month during the summer; and about 1800$ before taxes during the school semester. What do we need to submit with our I-864 form? Should we find a co-sponsor? How does that affect us?

If you read the i -864 you can see that there is a section where you can use your income as long as you can show them that you'' have it in the future; a co-sponsor does not hurt anyway; does he work now? if he can get a job now, and with what he was gaining in the past it might work (it depends on the amount he made). A Co=sponsor does not affect you at all, just a an extra form to be filled and few more papers in the envelope

Pictures are good but they do not weight a lot; open an account together, maybe a joint credit card (does not matter who's card is; just get a secondary card for the other one. When you get married I suppose that you guys will want to live together, so a lease would be great, the same address on the DL, maybe a cell phone (family plan; anyway it's great because you have free minutes between you guys).

Also, my birth certificate is torn, like almost beyond recognition. I can tape it together, but it doesn't look right. What can I do?

Try to obtain one from your country. When you send the application u can use a copy (hopefully you have one) and that buys you time to obtain it from your country; worse case scenario you'll use the one you already have.

How long does this process take because I need to go for a school function out of the country next year (March) and I dont want to risk leaving the country, even with the I-131 form

In most of the cases is everywhere between 4-12 months. I do not think that would be any risk anyway because you are in status at the moment you apply. I was here with visitor visa when i applied for AOS and AP and i had no troubles traveling in Canada and Mexico

I know these might sound like dumb questions, but I really need to know.

Thank you so much! Any other helpful tips would be accepted!

From my experience I can say that it was a painless process; it takes few days/weeks to put all the papers together but ... it saves you couple of thousands if you do it by yourself; this forum helps a lot. Good luck!

Patience is the greatest virtue. We all need it while dealing with USCIS (hahaha)
