I thought green cards lasted 10 years!

I don't really do much with my green card, just keep it in the protective sleave it came with in my wallet.

I just realized it is valid from 08/24/05 to 06/23/18 (I make that 12 years and 10 months)

Is it normal for a green card to last longer than 10 years now, or is there a mistake on my card?

There is definitely something wrong with the greencard you have been issued. You might want to make an infopass appointment and see what an immigration officer suggests. You may need to send it off with an I-90 to get a correctly issued one. Bring your passport and if it is expired, 2 passport type photographs, with you to the infopass. If you do need to send it off to get it correctly re-issued you will need to get the I-551 stamp placed in your unexpired passport, or they will make up an I-94 for you that shows your legal status if the passport is expired.

Also, moving to General Immigration forum as it isn't really an AOS question.

I think OP forgot did ROC.

08/24/05 is not "Valid from" date. That's "Resident Since" and conditional GC issued date.

Then 2 years later, OP did ROC and got 10 year card.

My 10 year GC states "Resident Since" 01/17/08 and "Card Expires" 03/18/20

This means 12 years and some months?
