According to the Mirena package, it is not recommended for people with liver disease or tumor.

well all after not having my monthly visitor since the end of December and after a bunch of negative pregnancy tests it turns out I have PCOS... I just found out this morning... the doc wants me to go back on BC but I can't because of my liver mass.. so he suggested the Mirena IUD..

I have PCOS too. If you can't/won't go back on birth control what they can do is prescribe you Glucophage(Metphormin). I'm not gonna lie, this ####### is terrible. You and the bathroom will become BFF's, but it seems to work. I found out I had it when I was 11 and then I had a flare up 6 months ago, and my doctor wanted me to try this. PCOS is one of the roughest things you'll go through if you ever have a ruptured cyst, and I don't know if I'll ever be able to have children. Mathew and I have been trying for 3 months(or as we put it, we're stopping the not trying lol) and still nothing. :(

Regulate your menstrual cycle. If you're not trying to become pregnant, your doctor may prescribe low-dose birth control pills that contain a combination of synthetic estrogen and progesterone. They decrease androgen production and give your body a break from the effects of continuous estrogen. This decreases your risk of endometrial cancer and corrects abnormal bleeding.

An alternative approach is taking progesterone for 10 to 14 days each month. This regulates your periods and offers protection against endometrial cancer, but it doesn't improve androgen levels.

Your doctor also may prescribe metformin (Glucophage, Glucophage XR), an oral medication for type 2 diabetes that lowers insulin levels. This drug improves ovulation and leads to regular menstrual cycles. Metformin also slows the progression to type 2 diabetes if you already have prediabetes and aids in weight loss if you follow a diet and exercise program.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Try talking to your doctor about trying a different brand of metformin, or even metformin ER (extended release).. It might be easier on your stomach. My bff's sister who has pcos got pregnant and has a 1 year old boy now.. so don't give up hope.

I've figured out a workaround for my tummy issue with it. I have to take the pill 10 minutes before I eat and I'm pretty much fine. Anything before, or after that, well... :dead: I didn't know they had different types of it though, so when I go back to the doctor next week I'll talk to her about seeing if I can change to something that may be easier for me.

Some people have certain reactions with medication and soem don't. One can goto drugs.com or just google and see what some of the side effects are. It is a common drug at the hospital, in most cases its with pts with diabetes. And my pts don't seem to have issues with it--but every one is different.

not sure if I mentioned this here but we are moving in a few weeks to one of the first places we looked at. they originally picked another couple, basically because they were more prepared then we were but he had to let them go because he wasn't sure what was happening with the house he was buying.. so once he got that straightened out he asked us if we still wanted the place and of course we said yes..

I had kept thinking about that place and compared every place we saw after that to it.. it has a really nice kitchen with all stainless steel appliances and it has a washer and dryer.. all for 100 bucks cheaper then where we are now  plus I will be saving another 30 to 40 bucks on not having to go to the laundromat anymore

the husband isn't crazy about the town and the fact that we will only be a few miles from his sister but he knows this is too good to pass up...

it is a lot smaller then where we are now but it has a yard and we don't have to fight for parking.. but I do like that it is smaller, it will be easier to keep clean :P

I'm sorry Marilyn - I missed this post. I have PCOS too,as well as endometriosis. Have for years...all happened for me in my 30's. I've had cysts rupture , as well as had one endometrioma (aka chocolate cyst) removed along with many adhesions. It's been a long haul. The treatments for PCOS are many and what works for one, doesn't work for another. You really just have to sort through what works for you. I would suggest a couple sites ilke http://www.pcosupport.org/symptoms.php or http://www.soulcysters.com/ .

BC pills have worked for me in the past, but now they don't (I don't have to worry about getting pregnant though, my husband is fixed :P )

Nuvaring is an option too - different way of getting hormones into your system (not through your digestion and liver...i think)...it worked for me.

There's a lot of lame duck advice out there which you'll read, you just have to find what works for you and really own it.
