*respectfully snipped* That was actually the genesis of a new company - three of my friends started to make and sell these old-fashioned wooden toys and are now so successful that they have a hard time keeping up with demand. Their products are sold in historic sites and museums across North America - and all from the realization that 'modern' kids still like good, old-fashioned, hands-on activites :)

That's awesome. Good for them! :D

Holding my nose and jumping off the cliff.. hope I don't hit any rocks in the water.

i got my first credit card approval today!!!!!

i had applied previously for capital one, best buy newegg etc..all with refusals. but what i did notice was the reasons why i was refused had changed.

it went from " you have no credit history etc" to "you have limited recent credit history".

i'm guessing being on all the bills here , electricity, cable, cell phone, finally paid off. since i use my bank account to pay them each month. Been in the usa since April, only took 7 months for my first credit card. :) it was a pre approval special offer one from Capital one as well.

now i get to buy the rest of the parts for my new computer a bit at a time and gain more credit!! woot! this will help immensely since davids credit is ok but not the best. and next year we need a new car and want to buy a house :)

Hi Liz, welcome back.

Grats Kimbear, I haven't tried to apply for one since being added to the man's card although I did get one of those pre approval offers also from Capital One. I just never got around to fill it out.

Yeah!! When we opened our joint account we got a secured credit card through that bank so I could start building some credit, and hopefully it would help improve Hubby's credit a bit....since we have pretty much paid off all his debts. I have noticed over the past couple of months that we have both been getting several credit card applications in the mail a month, so I take it that is a sign that I am developing credit and hubbys is getting better We still have a few debts to pay so they just get shredded...if we want more credit we will just add to the card we have. We are also hoping to be able to buy a house in the early spring, since the way the market is now we can get a fairly new 4bdrm house for less than what we are paying for rent. (add in insurance, upkeep and taxes and it will still be a lot less than rent, insurance and storage fees!)

That's great Kimbear! I hope you can build up some credit fast. I was shocked  when I got approved for an Amex back in April. I don't use it that much, but once in a while I do. It gives me Delta miles, and I hope to take a free trip somewhere next summer :)

I don't have any parents in law. But if I did, I think I would love them, 'cause Tim's family is crazy, and the apple doesn't usually fall far from the tree!

This cruise ship story is seriously the best thing I have read in a long time. I find it absolutely hilarious they're eating Spam sandwiches and Poptarts that are being airlifted to them.

No one is hurt so it's fine! They've had to rough it for 3 days but have stories to tell people for a lifetime. I just find the entire story really funny... "They've had to live for three days without a hot shower, a hot meal, or air conditioning!"

NO AIR CONDITIONING!? :o

GET OUT!!! :o

Well, my Mum and Dad have been and gone, and I've dropped my husband at the airport early this AM. So I'm all alone and it's raining. It was horrible saying goodbye to my parents. My poor Mum crying broke my heart. It was all I could do not to pack up and leave with them. :(

I've decided to make carrot cake to fill the void. Just as soon as I feel like venturing out in the rain. lol
