I meant to say: "Cheaper than flying" but I guess I mentioned driving twice.

Yea no problems at all. I was pretty nervous because I had heard many mixed reviews because people who travel a lot between NYC and Philly - those busses can get crowded. But both trips to and from Philly are fine, there's lots of space, wifi works, and it's comfortable and cleaner than a greyhound.

And hopefully you arrive with your head intact :) no disrespect to the gentleman who didn't of course...that was such an odd story

Bus too high, bridge too low! Megabus Crash

actaully I think Udella&Wiz was referring to this story

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/article700732.ece

Both of these are so sad. Sounds like the bus/bridge one shouldn't have happened at all! How could you miss those warnings? Makes me wonder if the driver was really paying attention or not.

The brother of a good friend of mine was killed within the last week, because of a driver (deputy sheriff) not paying attention. He had stopped ( at 4 in the morning) to help some people out of their car after an accident. He had a big enough truck, put his flashers on and everything, it wasn't on a corner...and the DS hit the car and killed him. He was only 44, left behind a wife and 5 children :( So heartbreaking.

Sort of funny but on both trips to and from Canada - no one sat in the front up top... in fact people seemed to avoid it like the plague. I sat below both trips just because always just grab the first seat I see.

You can get into a crash in a vehicle, you can get into a crash on a plane, all modes of transportation come with their own risks.

Oh I know; statistically, driving myself is probably the least safe way to go but I feel more in control if I'm in the drivers seat. I haven't actually been on a long bus ride for years and while I'm not phobic about flying I'm always aware I'm up in the air. I don't like take-offs but once we're landing I'm okay....I figure at least I'm heading in the right direction.

I do like the train though.

I had a terrible experience on the train a few years back going from Toronto to NYC... It wasn't anything terrible but it lasted way longer than it should have, stopped way more than it should have, and I could have walked faster than that train would go at times... it took us about 17 hours to get to the US - and I forgot to bring American money and at the border the train stopped accepting American money so my son and I were hungry, grouchy and tired by the time we arrived in NYC.

I have also had terrible greyhound experiences. But I think the megabus is so far an okay way to go. Until I have a bad experience, I'll still take it. I had heard so many bad reviews about the megabus though, mostly its service from Philly to NYC. I guess I'll stick with the train when going to NYC.

I decided to get my bag packed for the hospital tonight just in case baby decides to make an early apperance. And as soon as my dog saw the suitcase come out she was instantly attached to me and has been following me around the house everywhere I go. She is getting older (almost 12) and gets pretty bad anxiety when I go away. I feel so bad for her since I can't explain that I am not going anywhere. Hopefully she soon forgets that the suitcase came out, as it is now back in the closet!!

My dog is the same way!! She gets soo upset when she sees the suitcases!! Either means we are going away without her--or its a car drive to RI--both she hates!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

She loves the car rides....she rode shotgun when I moved from Ottawa to Georgia, sat there watching where we were going the whole time. She is always watching where we are going, like she is afraid that she will miss something!!

Colleens, talk to her all the same. Explain to her - even if you don't think she understands - what you are doing and why. Tell her in words about the baby and about you going away for a few days to have the baby and then coming home again with the baby. Surprisingly, they do seem to pick up on conversations like this as well and it may help to reassure her, even if all she is doing is picking up the tone of your voice and feeling reassured by that.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
