I picked my husband up from National Airport the other day. It was fascinating to drive by the Pentagon after years of seeing it/hearing about it on the news. I didn't expect it to be so close to the road. For some reason I had it in my head that it was inside very large grounds, hidden from view. There was a very interesting sculpture that soared high into the sky..... 3 long metallic pieces. I cannot find a reference to what it is, though. I don't know if it is somehow related to the 9/11 victims. Anyway, it was kind of cool seeing it. :)

That's it! Thanks, Marilyn!! All I kept coming back with was references to the sculpture park for the 9/11 Pentagon victims. Obviously, I was keying in the wrong words.

Why do some of these people hiring nannies want you to have some college education to take care of a baby? I can understand if it were to take care of school age children...

I would think that they would specifically want those who had Early Childhood Education (ECE) degrees. But if it's just random college education then I don't see much of a correlation.

i tried a couple of different searches and this is the one that finally worked "metal sculpture near pentagon" it led me to a wiki article about "Memorials and services for the September 11 attacks" I scrolled down the page and saw a pic of it with this description "Pentagon Memorial at night, with the United States Air Force Memorial in the background" so i guess kind of stumbled upon it by accident ..lol

Ya a tiny bit of uproar over the Air Force memorial. It was rather costly, some were not pleased with the millions spent, the ended up with a few "metal bars"!! lol

Yep, Pentagon is right by the road, you can tell where the plane hit, as some of the building brick is a different color

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I like the sculpture. :) It's very striking. That's one of the things I love about this area. The architecture and the art is wonderful. It reminds me of Europe.

Good sleuthing on your part, Marilyn! You should look into what it takes to work for an investigation company. lol

I don't know many people with a college education willing to take $1.80 an hour...

I've always wanted to go to DC. It's on my short list!

Speaking of sculptures, I don't know if any of you have been to the Denver International Airport in the last few years, but there is a giant iron statue of a blue horse right at the airport entrance. It has red eyes... glowing red eyes. Very creepy!

It looses it neatness really quick once ur stuck in traffic!! On the radio yesterday it stated DC traffic was 2nd worst in all of the USA!! If you can live outside the beltway and not have to commute far, it can be cool! Lot of great free attractions in DC! But honestly, we only head into DC a few times a year, but thats me!! lol We have a year left to go and were outta here for awhile, sooo can't wait!!

I don't find the DC traffic that bad. I mean it's bad..... lol.... but it's not Toronto bad. Huggles, if you're familiar with the Toronto traffic then it won't shock you. It's pretty comparable.

if you want bad traffic just come to the LA area...lol

**********************

so the hubster is in need of some new glasses... we do have insurance that covers part of it but it still could cost us around 200 bucks or so but then today I was doing some searching and I found a bunch of sites where you can order glasses online and it would cost about 70 bucks for lenses and frame.. I was just wondering if anybody has done this before...

and I know My hubby would still have to go to a optometrist to get a prescription which with insurance would only cost us $15..
