You know what its from right? It's from A Christmas story.... like the BEST and most HILARIOUS Christmas movie of ALL time! :D

major_award_4.jpg

Ah - I get to tell a true story right about here

Some of "A Christmas Story" was actually filmed In St. Catharines, Ontario. The school where the boy sticks his tongue to the street lamp post - that was filmed at the school right down the street (Niagara St.) from where I was living at the time. (Hehehe, I had to find a different route to get to work that day as the whole street was blocked off for the filming). The school kids in the class were actual students at that school and the firemen who answered the emergency call were real members of the St. Catharines Fire Department. I was Curator of Collections at the St. Catharines Historical Museum at the time. We approached the movie company and asked them if we could have some of the 'props' from the movie to add to the Museum's collection. They sent us two annotated film scripts, some film 'stills', movie posters - AND the actual Red Ryder BB Gun in its box and Ralphie's glasses - the good pair and the broken pair  . (They didn't send us the lamp or its pieces, though  ). So, I got to accession those items into the collection. When "A Christmas Story" became a cult obsession (and yeah, it is), the Museum put these items on display. People heard about them being there and the Museum had visitors come from all over just to see these items from the Movie. They now have them on permanent display and people come specifically to see them.

We were also involved in another Christmas movie when I was still working at the Museum - "One Magic Christmas" . It was mainly filmed in Toronto. The movie company approached us to see if we had archival documents they could borrow (rent, actually) to be part of Santa's Workshop. We had just recently received a huge collection of documents from the St. Catharines Courthouse which was being renovated, and it included boxes and boxes of trial transcript, evidence, ledgers, records, etc. We lent about 25 file boxes of documents from the collection that were 'expendable' if something happened to them (nothing did - we got them all back). In the movie where you see Santa reviewing the lists in the background in all of the cubbyholes you see these rolled files and documents representing the many years of Santa's records and letters. I always thought it was such a hoot that Santa's records of who had been naughty and nice actually were records of who had been naughty - very naughty - so naughty in fact that they had been tried in a courthouse. :P

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Wow Kathryn, thanks for sharing that! After doing some googling, I know exactly where you're talking about. I had no idea they filmed parts of the movie so close to home.

We bought a new front load washer and dryer yesterday. :) They get delivered on Sunday. No more laundromats!

They do not take Sears Canada cards at Sears US any longer. :hehe: Boo for no Sears points. lol. The funny thing is that they have a card called the "Sears Way" or something. It works the same as the Sears points so, really, you still get them.

Ya, their fries rock!!!! Burgers are good, but a bit greasy!!! MMMM fries!!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I found that out too. it's because they are both offered by different banks, and you can get either visa or mastercard i think.
