well it looks like it is a no-go on the cake... wouldn't you guys prefer a nice homemade cake over a store bought cake?? :P it isn't like they are getting it from some fancy bakery. it is usually one of those cakes you get from the supermarket

Hmmm....that depends. I'd love a homemade one but I use to LOVE the bailey's mousse cake from Loblaws, it was what I asked for every year. Now if they are just getting her a regular pound cake thing, yeah I'd take a homemade one any day.

they usually get one of those sheet cakes with the horrible thick icing that you can ask to have something written on...

Marilyn, I like homemade better too.

When we were getting married we had some suggestions on where to buy our wedding cake. It was highly recommended from some friends. We were given a few different deserts to try from friends and yes they were good. I was thinking a German bakery so I figured it should be similar to what I've had back home in styles and taste. We went to check the place out and they did have a wonderful assortments that you can't get anywhere else. Anyways we ordered our cake and it was beautiful, every loved how good it was. The icing was butter cream and was very good but over all I was not impressed with the cake. I had better, and I was disappointed with it. I was expecting this amazing cake that should of blown my mind but it failed not what I was expecting. Actually I ended up liking the walmart cake that my mother in law bought for the grooms cake better, I was surprised. So I really think ppl here have zero taste buds sometimes. Maybe that's why they eat that's sludge they call gravy here.

Normally, yes.

But I do like me a Costco cake, they taste super good for a store bought cake IMO.

Failing that, take me to a bakery or homemade, yes

Had my first Costco Sheet cake on June 30th!! And man was it ever good!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I guess my thing is that I am not a huge fan of Butter-cream frosting :dead:

there is real butter cream frosting, then there is that pure powdered icing sugar garbage that is in most store bought cakes. real butter cream is light fluffy and not too sweet. not that dries hard as rock and rot my tooth out stuff LOL :)

gotta say up in canada i did have good experiences with the costco cakes..those were yummy for the most part.
