wow this must be the theme of the month or something.

we just got a bill from the doctors office that David went to back in January. he was having sever back pain and spasm and had to have xrays and see the physical therapist. the place was covered by his insurance but lo and behold we just got a bill in the mail saying the therapist was not covered.

they even asked him for his insurance when he went in for the appointment, and of course this was 4 months ago!!! I mean..#######.

And now they are saying we are 30 plus days past due!!!!

Total ####### - I am calling the facuility back tomorrow and asking her to extend their deadline ad also give us an itemized bill, it simply isn;t fair fro them to send us a note saying pay us X without any explanation what it is.

David told me not to worry about it, that he says under Obama's new health care program that we are safe from people coming after us for non paid healthcare bills, but then i pointed out your situation and that just confused him. So i dun get it..i guess his extra pay in June will go to that freaking bill sigh

The woman had no trouble extendiong the 'send to collections' deadline while she continues to look into the issue. She was quite agreeable to sending us an itemized copy of the services they provided, so yay!

She has already found out that the person who did the original pre-auth did not go through their insurance dept (who is supposed to handle pre-auths) the counsellor lady supposedly did it herself. I will be mighty upset if it turns out she didn't provide the insurance company with the proper info to make an accurate pre-auth.

Then I will need to figure out how to make them pay it instead of us :)

Insurance agencies are there to make $$$$$$, one has to never forget that. A co-worker had a run in with her insurance co. She had to use a HCA hospital and yeppers ours was a HCA hospital!! And they denied her claim, saying it wasn't a HCA hospital, lol 1 would think a simple internet search would confirm that (which it would)but took awhile for them to clue in!!

I got good advice from my Wifes Dr--get it in writing! yes not always possible, but if you can, do it!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

An update on our insurance 'won't pay for what they preauthorized' situation.

The drug counselling centre looked back in their records and it turned out the counsellor herself didn't go through the proper channels to get the pre authorization . They actually have their own department which handles dealing with insurance companies. They have to decided to write off the entire $610 and although the billing department lady didn't tell me too much, she told me enough where I could gather the counsellor probably did not do the pre-auth correctly and that is what caused the problem. Their fault, they're taking responsibility for it - I'm happy, end of story!

Moral of the story is be persistent..like a mosquito bite...until you get the answer that you're looking for. I was prepared to go further to have them explain what my role was in this process that obviously fell apart. I had done the proper thing by requesting a preauth, it was on them to do it right!

All's well that ends well

I was in a traffic accident last Thursday.. a truck and trailer were making a left turn right in front of me and I braked to try and avoid him but the car skidded and the wheel of his back trailer took off the front bumper off my car and the insurance company told us it would cost more to fix then the car was worth :(

and just like that I no longer have a car.. stupid truck and trailer guy.. why did you have to try and make the light? ..grrrr

and what really sucks is the money we will get for the car will go to pay off the loan we still have on it :crying:

I went today to clean out the car of our belongings and I felt sad.. it really sucks not having a car..

I know it is just a car and I am very lucky to not have been hurt but it still sucks!

Awww...I am sorry to hear that marilyn. I don't really go out too much, but I know that I would be lost without a car. I like the freedom of being able to go where I want when I want.

I am glad that you (or no one else) was injured. Hopefully you will be able to get another car in the near future!

I talked to the insurance person for the other driver and he told me that the other driver was contesting the accident but he wasn't sure why yet... i told him what happened from my point of view...that I had the green light which is what i know I had..

well, there is some good news.. we are getting some money back from the write off, even after they pay off the car loan.. they valued the car way higher then I thought they would... almost 2000 more then what I found online

so they would rather pay out around 5000 dollars then fix the car.. I don't think there was that much damage to the car ..

I had what appears to be similar damage when my hubby had a little accident with my car. It was about $3k to fix, but my car was a GM. When the appraiser came out and did the appraisail I was shocked to learn how much damage that he found underneath all the visible parts..little cracks in the structural metal and such.

Is your car an import? Parts tend to be a bit more pricey for those so maybe that is why the estimate is so much.

At least you are getting a little extra cash out of it.
