Has this happened to anyone else when they come back to Canada to visit? My family acts like I didn't spend the first 35 yrs of my life here. I do remember what Celsius is, really I do. I do remember where things are in the city, no I don't need directions on how to get there the fastest way to such and such! No I do not want to pretend I'm a tourist.

Sigh....I think I've finally spent too much time with my family this week.

I don't think that is a Canada specific occurrence. I used to get that all the time when I lived back east and would come back to visit family and friends in California. I actually find that I do it too sometimes when friends come out and visit

Stupid bank - a year ago we switched our regular savings account into a Money market account (not that it makes more anyway,,,but I digress)

I came to find out today that when they transferred everything over....they dropped me as an account holder. So basically had there ever been an emergency I would not have been on the account.

It's kind of a non issue since we do all our banking online so I can access everything anyway. Ticks me off ...especially had we been on vacation or somegthing happened and we needed to access the moeny from a bank machine - my card was not attached :(

All fixed now.

Why are Dentist office so difficult here. All 6 of us went to get our teeth clean back in Feb, and we wanted to go ahead and make appointments right away. Well the office manager wanted us to do the cancellation list so we could just come in when they get a cancellation, we figured it would be faster. It is almost May only once did we get a call to go in. We have 4 kids that need work and if they don't get it done its only going to get worse. They have alot that needs to be done, they kept putting it off for 2 years now. I wish they would stop putting things off and get the work done before they all need root canals. One of the kids needs alot of work so we need to get as much as we can before Nov then the rest after Nov when the benefit's restart. On top of that they want us to pay at each appointment but then are trying to say insurance only pays 60% when it pays 80%. I so badly want to rip my hair out right now its crazy. The worse part is this is the dentist office we picked after having many issues with alot of others.

Only once have I heard of someone having to wait that long for a dentist appointment. My wife had to wait 3.5 months back in Ontario to get an appointment. They were just booked and she was just getting a checkup. Did the dentist office not even offer to make an appointment for you? I have had doctors tell me to put my name on the cancellation list when they don't have an open appointment within a week, but I have always been called within a couple of days. Did you call the office to ask them what was up? Maybe your names got accidentally removed from the list?

As to the billing issues you have with them, I hate the entire process. My dentist is actually a childhood friend of my sister, so she explained the whole process to me when I first went to her. My employer pays for 100% of my dental visits now, but when I started, it was only 70%. My dentist explained to me that they over-bill the insurance company to see what they will pay for. This is also to cut down on the costs that she has to charge to the patient. So my first visit, I had to have a filling done. I get a notification in the mail of the billed amount that the dentist submitted and about had an aneurysm. The final bill I got was much easier to palate.

I worked in the dental field for a number years in both a management and professional capacity. I would describe that practice as insurance fraud. I'm surprised the dentist admitted that! That's definitely a no-no. headbonk.gif

Dear gawd - do NOT get me started. But it's not 'here' that is the problem, it's the individual dentist ofice. My stepson's dentist does't charge us up front - he submits to insurance and then let's us knwo if there's a difference - very simple.

The retarded dentist that my daughter and I go to - charges us up front. So let's say we have 80% coverage for something....they charge ridiculously overpriced charges and then Insurance says - we only let dentists charge x so we're only paying that,

So I'm left trying to do the math between what the real 80% is based on what the Insurance pays versus the inflated 80% they originally made me pay.

Somehow I always owe a little more....I actually caught them in an accounting error and now I make them explain absolutely everything until I understand it.

The weird thing is they didn't want payment upfront if we stayed on the cancellation list but they want it since it now that we are scheduled in. I think they wan to over bill the insurance company too, cause when we get the explanation from the insurance company you can see the price they try to charge vs what will be payed. I know when we go to take them my husband will make them recalculate the bill to 80% not 60% if they want to get payed they will have to do it. I find it crazy how we have to wait till the end of May for the first appointment when they have more then one dentist we could see and we are not picky, we just want it done.

Maybe I'm being more impatient cause I don't want to be dealing with the dentist after the baby is born and the rate things are going we will be.

I hate dentists!! I learned here the hard way--their is a huge difference of accepting your insurance and being in the network! Sure they may accept ur insurance, but they can charge you whatever--and u make up the difference!! If they are in the network, I guess what they can charge you is capped! 1 dentist I went to wouldn't tell me insurance would pay and what they wouldn't--said that was up to me! I should have ran then, lol! His estimate to fix everything was like $6500. Went to another dentist (after I clued in) and it only cost me $1200 out of pocket, insurance covered everything else!! Have had friends here that have been seeing their dentist for awhile--only to relaize that Dentist is not within network, and could have saved themselves a lot of $$$$.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I can see if that was the case also, but they are in network so their is no excuse.

Sounds fishy doesn't it. THere is something going on that needs to be regulated I'd say.
