so we got a nice send off yesterday someone stole the catalytic converter off my car :o

we put in a claim with our insurance because we only have a 100 dollar comprehensive deductible.. I am just waiting for the insurance person to call me...

 most cars are too low to the ground to do that - what did they do, jack the car up?

no, my hubby was able to fit under the car to tie up the part that was dragging.. there was also a big scrap in the cement under the car..they probably scraped it taking it out..oh and they also took the time to take the bolts out instead of sawing it off

Maybe its just me..but i find that "Un Huh" is the rudest thing ever invented phrase wise. When I say "thank you" I expect "Your welcome" in return, not "un huh"...to me its the same as waving your hand at me to make me go away. who the eff invented that #######?

I think I have found an appropriate use of "Uh huh". I'm not a fan of it, but I think it is ok to use when someone sarcastically says "you're welcome", or is being disingenuous in general. :P

It's fairly common in any metro area in the world. The titanium in the catalytic converter is fairly easy to remove.

 Oh yeah, and how many times have you been called 'hon' or 'honey' by complete strangers?

That's one of the things that has always bugged me about my husband - he always says 'uh huh' instead of 'thank you' or 'you're welcome'! I know he isn't being rude and is acknowledging something, but it has always sounded rude to me, too.

I get the blank looks when I say 'you're welcome' to some one as well - or 'excuse me'. No one says 'excuse me' or 'I'm sorry' if something they do infringes on you - like push past you in the grocery store with their cart, or something. You get used to it after a while and realize they aren't meaning to be rude, they have just never learned to use these phrases.

I get called Hon or Honey a lot, especially by cashiers or waitresses. I guess it is better than ma'am :P . One Southern custom I do like is calling a woman 'Miss" as in "Miss Kathryn". That is what they say when they do know you and don't have to call you 'hon' :). Age and marital status don't come into play - every woman is "Miss (first name)" to men, women and children who are allowed to use your first name. It's kind of nice.

Yep that's true!

I haven't encountered too many rude people around where we live, I'm lucky I guess! Well, being from Quebec, I'm kinda used to rude people so this is an improvement!

I use ma'am a lot, always told that showed respect! Ye sit is mazing how few people saw welcome, and my biggest peeve is people that don't say excuse me!!!! I have been know just not to move and watch them get upset, lol Then state "an excuse me would be appropriate!!" lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
