Derek applied for citizenship back in early August and it took months to get an interview. Today was supposed to be the big day. We got the the Washington, DC office in Fairfax, VA about an hour early and just as we arrived so did the fire department and police. Turned out to be some sort of threat and everybody had been told to leave the building. We waited until Homeland Security arrived to sweep the building with their dogs but a USCIS staff member said that he doubted the building would reopen anytime soon and recommended that we leave and have the interview rescheduled. So instead of standing around in the cold with no guarantee of being interviewed, we did just that. Have no idea when they can fit Derek in again but are hoping in the next month or so. Argh.:crying:

Thats sucks!! After my interview---i had to wait for my oath ceremony----as their was a file they needed to look at??? No clue what it was and never will, but the file had to come from their central office (in another state)I think I had the oath ceremeony in approx another month, so wasnt too long.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Alright, well after two weeks of looking for a job, I have found nothing, nada, rien, niet... I'm not trying to have a pity party here, but #######? I feel like a complete failure, trying to find a job here, when I could be making good money back home... Oh wait, dont' people at Burger King make good money :bonk: ?

Something's gotta give soon, right? AND, to top it off, I applied for a job on Craig's List (yeah I know...) and almost got scammed because they wanted my credit score before they interviewed me... I feel like there's no hope here! :crying: Gosh!

Oh, and can Sarah Palin have a hunting accident already?

Gosh, I feel the same... I was thinking that maybe it was just the timing that wasn't right, maybe people here don't hire as much right after Christmas... I even applied at Merry Maids here, and they weren't hiring either...

Well, I'll be knocking on wood for you too!

Mathew has been looking since he got his EAD, and nothing. He had interviews with Rockwell, but he didn't get one of them and still hasn't heard on the other. It's hard being the only income we have, and it's part-time income at that.

I really wish I knew what it was. I've been applying since April and in all that time I've now had a total of 5 interviews (out of god knows how many applications). I managed to snag a couple like 5 hour days through an employment agency here but its really not much. I'm working on the last of 3 interviews for the Microsoft store, but I mean, I went to one for Chipotle and didn't even get a call back from them. All I can say is try to keep your head up, I know it sucks but hopefully eventually something will work out for all of us.

It wasn't a war against slavery.

They have this sort of holiday mash up throughout the south. A friend of mine who works in Atlanta gets the 17th of January off......... for Civil War Memorial Day.

My husbands SSN card came today.

They fracking screwed up his first name... his name is Jean-Francois, they wrote Jean Tremblay. Really? When I very obviously put JEAN-FRANCOIS as his first name. Idiots.

He's actually asked me about getting a name change from Jean-Francois to Jeff, only because he doesn't want to be called JEAN for the rest of his life.
