Oh wow Kathryn!

My mom had me when she was 22 and was a high school dropout. When I was 15 she went back to school, and we were actually in both in high school at the same time for a year. We didn't go to the same school or anything extra weird like that, but doing homework with your mom while she's working on the same stuff is pretty interesting! She went to school during the day, and then went back to school at night to take extra classes and finish quickly. After she graduated she went to college for two years and got her teaching assistants certification, and finally finished at the age of 41. So, it's definitely possible to peruse your dreams even with kids. I was really proud of her for doing that and showing my sister and I anything is possible :)

There really isn't any big or compelling reason for us not to have kids in the near future, I'm just not sure that I'm ready or will be ready for quite a while. When we were first dating we always talked about how we would get married, wait three years, and then have a baby. Well now that I'm married and It's almost been a year, those three years seem like they're going to come way to fast! I've always wanted kids fairly young so life can be like Rhiann's parents or Sprail's plans... Have kids, let them grow up and move out, then enjoy your 50's+ with an empty nest. I mean, I'm only 22, so I guess I have a few more years before that dream dies.

so this is totally not meant to be a downer but it is a question I have been wondering how I should handle...

I never know what to say when people ask me if I have any kids.. if I say no,I feel like I am betraying the two I did have but if I say yes I would have to go into a big explanation.. I usually say no but I feel bad after

I think you are doing the right thing Marilyn, I mean I am sure you don't want to go in to a big explanation. You know what you mean and that's all that matters

yeah, you are right..I just don't like that twinge of guilt that I am denying my babies...although I know I am not

I will explain sometimes, it all depends on the person and the situation...

Ashen,

Here's a funny story that happened to me because of that stereotype.

About a year about Joe and I were married I applied for a job as office manager at a local heritage site where I was a volunteer. The interview went fairly well until I discovered they weren't paying the same amount as they were paying their current assistant. As I was not willing to do the job for minimum wage, after the interview with the 3 woman committee I called up the Director and said I would be withdrawing my application. She said, oh that wouldn't be a problem because they had already decided that even though I was the best applicant for the job they felt reluctant to give me the job because "after all, you are a new bride and you will probably be having a baby very soon and you will most likely want to leave the job to stay at home and be a mother"! Now, the really funny part of this? I was 51 years old at the time (my birthdate was on the application form) - and was just finishing menopause.

Perhaps all you need to say is 'I have two angels", smile and change the topic.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I don't know if I'm an arsehole for this one, but here goes.....

About 4 months ago, I donated blood. I have a severe phobia of needles and this was my attempt to conquer my fears. A big as$ needle stuck in my arm for 12 minutes 42 seconds (yes, yes I did count) was enough for me. I now get emails and calls at a minimum of 3 times a week asking me to donate blood. I have one of the more rare blood types, so I understand they are in need. I get upset though because I've told them about my phobia and that it really shook me when I did it. I don't think I could handle doing it more than once a year. Am I being selfish? I have tried dealing with my phobia with counseling, and tried to just face it, but neither has really done anything to remedy the situation.

I think that it is great that you donate in the first place. :) You might just have to be firm the next time they call and tell them you are only able to donate once a year and you will not be responding to their emails and calls. I don't think you need to offer any explanation and should not feel guilty. Perhaps one day when you are able to overcome your phobia you will donate more often but for now you are doing the best you can do.

so this is totally not meant to be a downer but it is a question I have been wondering how I should handle...

Marilyn you only have to tell others what you are comfortable with. You know what is in your heart and that is all that matters. :)

2 vents!...I want my husband home!! :crying: All the crappy stuff always happens when people are separated...just want it all to STOP!! Took time off of work for his arrival knowing that theres a chance I may be spending those days alone....blah love the military...NOT!

Got my first traffic ticket today...in my stupid attempt to get somewhere quickly I ran a red light(stupid of me I know! I am usually a cautious driver...ok it was yellow when I ENTERED the intersection). The cop was nice about it and said that I was eligible to take a traffic safety class, which is cheaper than paying the ticket and it won't go on record (insurance and no points on DL) But its 8 hours of my time that I will not get back..lol!

:bonk::angry::crying:

So I work in Moorestown which is known to be pretty upscale, hence why I don't live here :P Anyways my coworker was telling me that there's a ghetto here and I was like: "No there's not! What makes it ghetto!?" and she says with the straightest face: "Because the houses there are only worth $500,000.00!"

If that's ghetto I sure as hell must live in the slums...
