Glad you're feeling better KimBear and that the trigger point/pressure point therapy is working - along with the cream that Flames suggested. Actually, you can get Zantac in the US. I buy it at Fred's (a discount store) under its generic name Ranitidine. It comes in 75 mg dosage without a prescription, and my prescription was for 150 mg so I just took two (much cheaper). Check in a variety of pharmacies or some of the discount stores if you have them - you'll find that the generic is a lot cheaper than the brandname too, but they are basically the same formulation.

:( Kathryn, I hope you hear good news about Tristan this afternoon and the surgery is a success at removing what ails him. Do you think that contributed to him losing weight too? Maybe not eating as much, since his mouth might've been hurting.

Either way, crossing my fingers that he is just fine. Will hug my kitties extra for him today. :luv:

Thanks everyone. Tristan is back from the vets. He has had all of his top teeth removed - either that or they fell out during the surgery on their own :(. The vet has sent off 3 biopsies as his bottom teeth are perfectly fine. She is hoping that it is just the way his mouth is formed that all of the top and none of the bottom were affected but she said it was very unusual and she hasn't come across that situation before. We will know more in 2 weeks.

Yes, she thinks that his teeth being so bad - even the ones where the teeth themselves looked good, the roots were horrible - could have contributed to his weight loss. He is on antibiotics for 2 weeks and on painkillers for the next 3 days (oh joy - the dosage for the painkiller is something I have to work out because it is so variable for cats. It can be .05 ml to 1 ml so the dosage is determined by observation. We're starting at .25 ml every 6 hours for 24 hours and then every 8 hours for the next 2 days - and then as needed after that. Unfortunately, he can't say 'I'm in pain' so I will have to observe. He is also going to have bloody drool for the next day as he learns to accommodate no teeth.

Right now I am having to introduce him to the rest of the cats at home - and he doesn't want to co-operate. I want to keep him confined in our bedroom until he 'smells' right again (loses that hospital smell). He is having none of that so I let him out to just explore keeping the rest of the cats away. He still sort of stumbles from side to side from the anaesthetic effects. Of course, Bear got close to him when I was keeping Abby away and started to hiss so I put Bear into the spare room for a bit. When Tristan went to use the litter box I let Bear out who came barreling out trying to find the invader. I then put Tristan in the spare room where he is now. He needs to get enough smell 'right' so that tonight he can spend the night in our room with 2 other cats, although Abby may be in the spare room on her own if she hisses too. Oh joy! The next few days will be delightful - but the prognosis is good especially if the biopsies come back negative.

Awww poor kitty. Hope he feels better soon. and i completely get that "smell right" thing. It's like my dogs if i bathe them too much, they dont know who they are anymore. Should take a day for the anastesia to wear off. My pups looked soo sad and yet comical at the same time wobbling from side to side all dopey eyed. I'm sure he'll be fine in a week the way you take care of your kitties :)

Awwww we care sooo much about these little animals, hope your cat will b better Kathryn.

I brought my chihuahua in the USA with me when i moved. We bought a little kitty 1 month ago. They are very fine together, but it ended up that the kitty has "ringworm" and we didn't know it.. So he gave it to the dog, and i also have a small lesion myself on my arm. Maya (chihuahua)'s condition is the worst, she got some bad ones at a couple places on her body :( Both animals are on medication, anti-fungal by ingestion and topical. (it's not a worm, it's a fungus). We need to clean all the appartment very good because these fungal infections spreads some spores, and it's contagious. So it's not dangerous at all, but i still feel really bad that i can't give love to my animals because we're all contagious :(

I hate when furbabies are sick. They're just so pitiful and it makes me upset that they can't tell me what's wrong. :(

I also wish that ours didn't hate each other so much. It's been almost 4 months and they still run at each other and hiss everyday. Thank goodness there's been no fights, just a lot of smacking and running away. His cat could really be the next Mike Tyson. You know, without the biting off ear incident.

Kathryn I hope the kitty feels better soon. It will be interesting to see if the vet is able to determine the cause of the discrepancy between the top and bottom teeth. I wouldn't want to see your vet bill!!

ok what the EFF is with lazy people who can't pick up a phone to deal with stuff and just want to do it quckly online?? is this an american thing? cuz it's a habit mu husband has and it is DRIVING ME CRAZY!! Not to mention the possible identiy theft that can happen with online personal business.

he wont call up anyone, he will log into an online account and try and do stuff that way then i get excuses like oh i have to wait for a pin aka another two weeks blah blah..GRRRRR

get off your lazy butt and call the cell company , the electric compoany , the bank, and the bloody insurance company!!!!!

we have been married since April, and i have yet to see my name on most of the bloody stuff. if i could do it myself i woudl!!! we went thought this same sh1te during our k1...i had to push and push and push for him to call people and get an answer, in the end as soon as i was allowed to call and make inquiries..WELL I DID! and ya know what?? i had stuff fixed / corrected/ done asap!

i'm not a control freak, but i sure dont have patience to wait for people to fix things that i asked for 3 months ago....@#$%^&*(!!!!!

There are a lot of companies that make it very difficult to contact them via phone and try to resolve most problems through their website. I had a lot of problems trying to add my wife's name to utilities and bills. The bank, and credit cards were no problem, but utilities were insane. In the end, rather than add her name to the account, they replaced my name with hers.

I will admit that I was somewhat the same way as your husband regarding paperwork. With the visa application process, she did about 90% of the work. She is very detail oriented and I am... well, i'm not so much. However, when it came to the AoS, she just refused to do anything and I was forced to do it all. Sink or swim really.

Maybe it is an American thing...I ended up doing mostly the entire process. My husband just paid the fees and signed what he needed to sign. Heck, I'm sure he still hasn't read over the guidelines of the I-864...

grr, I am really tired of dealing with health insurance #######....

so I get this bill for something I thought I had already sorted out back in June... I contact the Hospital billing company and they tell me that the insurance company reprocessed the claim.. so I contact the insurance company and after a bit we figure out that because I had called the insurance company back in June they decided to do me a favour and reprocess the claim as a inpatient claim and I should be grateful that I only have to pay $85 instead of a couple hundred dollars... but when I contacted the hospital billing company back in June they said they applied an adjustment and I didn't owe anything... grrr so maybe if I would have contacted them first back in June I wouldn't owe this money now.. grrr

oh and the lady today kept saying that I had asked them to reprocess the claim and I hadn't, back in June I was told they couldn't do anything about it because the doctor was out of network.. they decided to reprocess it not me ..grrr

oh and I noticed that they actaully reprocessed a couple of my other claims too.. so now I owe more money on those too

this stupid medical ####### I went through a few months back as cost me around $800 to $900 :o

a good chunk of that was a stupid ER visit where they didn't do anything but poke me a little, take a blood test and a urine test and give me something nasty to drink.. it cost me around $300 just for that...:o

That really sucks Marilyn, i am terrified to go to the Emergency for reasons just like that. I am trying really hard to keep my asthma under control at all times, but its dang near impossible when your allergic to everything. Our doctor runs a walk in clinic type of setting so if anything happens during the day we can just go straight on over. Its too bad most things happen after hours.
