Tick Tock,

Sometimes immigration timing really sucks. I'm sorry you're facing the probability of not being able to make your grandfather's funeral. At the very least, send flowers for the viewing and the funeral - you will be there in spirit even if you can't make it physically - or make a donation in his name to a charity he supports. You can even plant a tree in his memory - if not in your yard, many cities or communities have a memorial tree program where you can honour someone who has passed.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Kathryn, those are all great ideas. :) I have been so hung up on the "what I can't do"s that I did not even stop and think of what I could do. I know I am still (unfortunately) a few months away from being able to send in my AOS and I will not be able to apply for permission to travel. You've all been very kind and have given me several positive ideas on how to approach a negative situation. Thank you all.

Awww Tick Tock! HUGS. I know your going through alot with the immigration process, and what with the funerals, and i'm soo sorry this is happening to you. Kathryn makes some good suggestions which may help put you at ease. Its easy to get stuck in the "what i can't do what i'm not allowed to do etc" phase. Just know that we are here for you to talk to no matter the issue.

I think we were both adopted and are actually biological sisters. :luv: This is exactly the experience I've had too. I used to take the train to visit my dad and brother and all I ever got was criticism for the decisions I've made, the way I dress, colour my hair, having a blemish on my face, even having friends. I still get a weekly call so they can ###### about everyone they know, and yes they are incredibly racist and paranoid about everyone. My husband says they way they are towards me (and your family to you) because of jealousy. I'm guessing you've done things in your life that they've never done or will ever get to do. We're the black sheep and it's easy to make fun of the black sheep.

And TT, I'm sorry for everything you're going through right now. I missed my grandfather's funeral as well because I was stuck in the US and if it's any consolation, I didn't feel as bad once the actual day was over. I went to a cliff and released a letter on a balloon for him instead. Maybe you can do something like that. And if all else fails, ask your family if you can be on speaker-phone during the funeral.

Gemmie, i'm considering you my adopted long lost sister!!! We have had way too many things in common in a few threads now lol :) And ya...i guess i was the black sheep, only one to graduate, only one to get a house, only one to get promoted and have a really good job. Only one to get engaged and married. And i don't drink smoke or do drugs like my family. Shrug...but one big difference ?? I'M FREAKING HAPPY WITH MY LIFE AND LOVING IT!!

I'm so sorry. That's hard but it sounds like you have certainly tried your best to make it work. You don't need people like that in your life, but it's tough when those people are family.

Thank you Kathryn. Those type of people are not the ones i want to surround myself with anymore. I choose to make something of my life and not be stuck in the alchoholic / drug addition dredges that they are in. As it is i lost my father to alchohol, my brother to drugs, and still my mother and sister refuse to see the light and change or do something. That is why i consider meeting David a sort of godsend if you will.

If it weren't for him helping me see i needed to get out of the situations i was in, and that i was better than that, and that i could be happy, i would never have taken that 23 hour Greyhound buss ride from Otttawa to Chicago to meet him. Being on that buss was the scariest thing i had done in years lol. But i am so very glad i did it :)

I have him and his wonderful family and i have my amazing VJ family, especially my fellow Canadians who give advice and friendship with no strings attached. :luv:

How funny... I came on here to make a 'T.G.F.V.J.' post as well.

First of all, to those of you going through such hard times *hugs*. I am so sorry, and send you strength.

As for me, I have a vent related to people who just DON'T GET IT. I use Facebook as a venting ground as well, and today, amongst other ####### that's happened that most of you know 'most' about, I found out something else I have to get from Canada now. So naturally, I bitched about it on FB (in very generic terms as I usually do without detail on there... such as telling someone to never move to the U.S. because it's not worth it.. lol). Anyways... one of my friends made some comment about my negativity, and I about lost it. So instead I ignored her and responded to the people who DIDN'T complain about me complaining. lol

SO... in short. Thanks VJ... for not being b!tches about us needing to b!tch.

I had the same thing happen to me on facebook. Gotta love those supportive friends. Everyone needs to vent on occasion. The funny thing was this 'friend' of mine complaining about my negativity does the same thing. The other day she was complaining what a day she had and how cranky she was... I was tempted to comment "Gee...that doesn't sound real positive...don't you have anything positive to say?" As it was I had told her if my status updates bothered her that much then either set them to not show up in your feed or delete me.

On another note...I woke up this morning and the a/c is not working. I'm in Florida and its 81F and apparently going to be "High 90's today and not much, if any rain to cool us off" that was according to the weather dude.

Yuck - hope you can get a repair person out for the A/C today. Ours stopped working end of May (I think) when the temps were just starting to get into the 90s and it took 3 days before the repair man could make it. Our compressor was shot and was burning out capacitors so we needed to replace the unit or the compressor - neither option cheap. He was able to replace the capacitor so we had a/c until we could get the new air conditioner unit installed the following week. Hopefully it is something minor like a capacitor and not the compressor. Keep the windows closed, the curtains drawn and any fans on full to help hold in as much coolness as you can. Good luck.

As I was walking from my car to the building I work in, I see a man and woman walking and talking together. They finish their coffee's from starbucks at about the same time and then they put them on the ground, in the parking structure, not more than 5 feet from a trash can. Usually, I don't say anything, but in this instance, I said "wow, thats effing lazy" under my breath. They heard me and took offense to my comment.

Yes, I was rude, and I do regret saying it so loud and for using "effing". But I simply have no tolerance for people that lazy that they can't walk 3 feet out of their way to throw something in a bin.

I would have done the same. That is one of my biggest pet peeves along with people who spit lugies on the ground. gross!

Saliva is bio degradeable, so I don't usually bother with that. The funny thing about littering is that I once wrote a research paper for an economics course that justified littering as a good thing for local economies.

grr so I was on my health insurance site and I decided to add up what we have paid out in medical expenses for me since March of this year.. it was around $650 bucks :o.. I am sure about half of that was just for blood-work :P

oh and I was figuring out what we paid for the stupid pointless ER visit I had and it was over 200 bucks :o
