This happened to me TWICE today and I thought it was amusing (not to mention being touched that they thought of me) and wanted to share.

I called two of the Nigerian embassies here (DC and NYC) to ask about my honey getting a corrected passport (his name is spelled wrong) without having to actually go back to Nigeria to get it. (For the life of me I couldn't understand why he couldn't do it at the Nigerian embassy in Gambia or in Senegal. Thankfully the NYC lady explained why that wasn't possible). Anyway on BOTH occasions just before I hung up, the women asked "how do you know this man? Where did you meet him"? I have to admit the first one to ask me (in DC) caught me off guard and I answered right away without asking her why she asked. When the NYC woman asked the same thing, I told her but before I could ask her why it was relevant she said "Good. There are so many women being scammed on the internet today. I want to make sure you know him".

I thought that was very sweet of them. Although I do think a little nosiness had something to do with it too.

I'm sure they are always sniffing for those 'violaters', in attempt to get them arrested and held over for trial.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Scammers are everywhere for everything, ive had two Nigerian men try to scam me for money recently from a dating website, posing as white men from the USA....whew , its a good thing im wise to situations like that or I could have been an easy target. Its just so sad:(

Does your husband know you are on a dating web site ?

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

I have a friend of a friend who was just scam on black planet website. Guy had some good looking pic she fell for (which probably was not him), he sweet talked her over conversation. He then told her he was coming to visit her here in the states from England. Claim e was coming to do business. Never showed and gave some sob story about his mom being sick or something. Then he started asking for money and she sent it a couple times.. Supposedly her travel back and forth between Africa and England. I blame her though...How can women be so gullible to people they never met online. People post fake pics and tell so many lies.

I think your *question* was totally out of line. How is this any of your business??

And I think a married woman posting "I've had two Nigerian men try to scam me for money recently from a dating website," a bit risky on a web site open to view by immigration officials that may decide a relationship is not bonafide based on posting like that. Hopefully the husband can correctly answer the question about dating sites. Also I find the assumption that they were Nigerian offensive.

Well, the point you made above with reference to K&L may have had merit if she were married. But her profile indicates that she is divorced, so it really doesn't matter what her (ex)husband thinks or knows at this point. I responded to your comment the way I did because it came across as if you were trying to call her out and did not come across as you trying to advise her on what to post here about her relationship. It's possible that she made some assumptions about the nationality of the person that tried to scam her, but you also made some assumptions about K&L's situation when you asked your initial question.

I strongly agree with your post. If you are that "gullible" to send money to an absolute stranger, then to me its disregared as a scam. I call it stupidity.

not nigerian... Just wanted to add my two cents. My husband then friend was a mate of mine on the internet. He had a few hard times, I sent him a few dolleros to tide him over, it was not a grand amount just under 100 dollars, especially with the exchange of pounds to dollars.

I had seen him on cam, but i wasnt interested in him like that, we were both dating other people. One of the things that made my husband fall in love with me was my willingness to trust him.

yes there are scammers, but at some point you must develop enough common sense and discernment ( spiritual) to know good from bad. I can spot a scam a mile off.

Two cents done.
