Obama Administration Challenges Arizona E-Verify Law

It's of no matter if AZ's e-verify law is effective or not. It's about this administration's intent to undermine state's rights and increase the dominance of the federal government. They have made it clear that they are unconcerned about the problems states with large populations of illegals face. They have made no effort to help the states solve these problems; instead, they have been very vocal about opposing state sovereignty and pounding them into the ground.

Rather then step up, or even apologize for their lack of support, they have set out to neuter states that dare to challenge federal inaction and incompetence, and scare others into not even trying. This is not a cooperative administration. It is not a government of the people, who overwhelming empathize with AZ's immigration issue and their efforts to stem the tide. This is a slap in the face not only to states, but to the citizens dwelling within them. Obama simply doesn't care about us. He is partying while Rome burns, and has no interest in changing course.

Shame on those who voted this bunch into power.

You got it wrong. They do nothing productive or constructive. Otherwise, they do plenty wrong.

That's because they are stuck in a power play with states. Just look at this oil mess or Katrina. Funny how it all becomes the federal government's fail, when a state fails. States have proven time and time again that they cannot handle weed in their backyards, let alone major challenges. Much like this oil spill, there should have been a federal government body established to handle these sorts of disasters; to protect America and Americans. Something that should have been paid for using a gasoline tax. Instead we have now destroyed the gulf with the all too common finger pointing. LA [a state] has proven to be a total and failure of epic proportions in such situations.

Make E-verify mandatory. Now.

Every job and use of any government service should require e-verify.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

What's FEMA, then?

I thought FEMA was last response. It's seems to be the norm of some states that they rely on the federal government. If a state is unable to carry out their duties or obligations as a state, I believe they should forfeit their right to be a state and be turned into a territory, as is the case with NT in AUS. I have had it up to here hearing LA officials pass the buck at their constant utter incompetence.

OK, different kind of disaster.

But this is about AZ and their efforts to gain control of the situation in spite of the Federal government and their abrogation of Federal immigration law. The last thing AZ needs is Federal intervention to hamper their drive to gain control of the situation. They are trying to implement legislation which replicates Federal law and thereby allows local AZ law enforcement to do the job that the Federal government does not want to do.

On the subject of LA, go find Governor Jindal's pointed questioning of the permit process for the sand bars off the LA wetlands and the three week delay his administration had to deal with before they could implement measures which were included in the proposed Federal response to the oil spill. I don't think the fault lies solely with Louisiana.

The state should have thought about this prior to the disaster. Much like Katrina, this was not some freak unforeseeable disaster which occurred out of the blue. Evidently the state is plagued with corrupt or inept leaders.

The state needed Federal permits to place the sand berms. Without them, they were S.O.L. You can't foresee every eventuality, and can't have permits for every conceivable location just waiting in the wings.

Obama's been to LA three times and he has yet to bring a berm permit with him. While Jindal was begging the Feds to allow him to protect his shoreline, the Feds were praying to their envirogods to get permission to skip the required enviromentalimpact statement, as if the pact of oil slicks at the shore isn't self- evident. These are the same boobs who insist on controlling your health care.

They had at least 40 years for the levies. It's also a no-brainer since oil rigs have been off the LA shore for decades. Furthermore, the exact same disaster already occurred in the gulf 30 years ago.

This isn't the same as New Orleans. These are sand berms, approximately 100 miles of them, placed offshore to stop oil getting into the wetlands. These are "in emergency only" measures as they will disrupt the flow of water into and out of the wetlands while they are in place. Their sole purpose is to beach the oil where it can be dealt with, rather than letting it into the multitude of waterways in the LA wetlands. As soon as the oil spill is gone, so are the sand berms.

And placing them needs Federal permits, of which Jindal has 6 out of the 30 he needs. Politics Daily link

It's of no matter if AZ's e-verify law is effective or not.

Not necessarily in the context of the topic at hand. But one still wonders why despite the state's apparent efforts to get a handle on the situation illegals set up shop there plenty. I'm all for e-verify or whatever system works to ensure that jobs will go only to those that are eligible to live and work here. I'm not so much for either ineffective laws to be passed or for effective laws being passed w/o ensuring effective enforcement of them. The latter is nothing more than the usual political grandstanding - "Oh look, we did 'something'".
