Can we include VA disability compensation as an Income on I-864 ?

Hello friends,

My husband makes around 14k a year in taxable income and gets 8k in VA compensation .He has around

15 k in student loans and debts.Can he include this VA compensation as an income in filling the

form I-864 for a household of two ( $18,202 ) or we would have to go with a co- sponsor ? If we

could include money from the VA as an income would a letter from the VA stating that he gets 8k

a year enough or he would need more documentation ? I have a friend who could be a co sponsor but

we really don't know what to do in this situation .Could we include VA disability compensation as an income on I-864 ? or should we go with a co-sponsor ? Thanks in advance....

Nirt12, please clarify so we may ensure this thread is in the correct forum - with what application are you submitting the I-864 - for a CR-1 visa (spouse outside of the US right now) or an AOS application (spouse inside the US right now)?

Might be too late. But yes, VA disability compensation can be used in I-864. Just add a cover letter explaining it is non-taxable, so there are no IRS papers that go with it. If I recall, there are fields there for taxable income. In which case, you don't include the compensation amount in it. Just what's taxable. My husband put nothing except his disability pay in our I-864 when we filed for CR-1. Good luck!
