May I ask, in a totally non-menacing, non-RUB "get off mah lawn" kind of way, why you are so fascinated with posting in the UK forum recently? :)

Lawn trespass is a crime - capital offense - ask Clint

I'm sorry, I really didn't anticipate how strange some people are.

Translation of my previous post stating that only "Karma" would have to be feared:

No, there is no law on Earth that would apply here.

But while you brought it up, Happy Bunny, what law do you think I broke for over a decade? Am I guilty of a crime or a misdemeanor?

Before you hurt your bunny brains, the correct answer is: "none."

That's right, Bunny: overstaying one's visa is not a crime, nor a misdemeanor. It's only a civil infraction with no punishment assigned. If you ever forgot to use your turn signal when changing a lane you are more of a lawbreaker than I ever was.

:bonk:

What law has the OP's husband broken? Debt is also a civil infraction

It's morally reprehensible - ask anyone who has lent money and been repaid with derision.

It's much worse than infractions like dropping litter/overstaying because there is always a victim

The sociopaths who do it just can't see that and never mend their ways. They always make out they are nice people while feeding off the work of others.

Bernie Madoff and his ilk are best behind bars as are country skippers. Any sign of 'intent' makes it 'obtaining money by deception' and that IS a crime and a serious one too. Trust me, I used to arrest people for it.

You were here illegally. Dress it up how you wish, but that's a fact according to you. And before you get on your moral pedestal, don't go bein all 'karma's a biotch' to someone else for their choices, when your own are clearly not gauged by a moral compass.

Physician, heal thyself!
