I will be transfering some money in US dollar from TD Canada to ING Direct USA via custom house and I was wondering If TD canada is going to charge me anything for this transfer.

If you go to the TD Canada and ask for wire transfer they do charge it based on how much you are transfering ,but not sure if u are doing this via custom house..

of course it could vary from bank to bank!! In Canada I have president choice, and in the USA I have USAA. As long as i do it Electronically (EFT) I get charged no fees but either bank! But yes, if one wants the $$$ quicker, one has to go the Wire route and yes then your banks will charge a fee.

An EFT transaction takes anywhere from 3-7 business days, again depends on the bank and sometimes the very 1st transaction with an account can take a bit longer

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

You don't do the wire transfer at the TD end. That is done through CH and there is a $25 charge (last time I did it). Basically you go to "Pay Bills" on TD, pay yourself at CH, then CH receives the payment and deducts the wire transfer fee before sending it on to your US account. That's if you want a same day transfer. There's no fee if you're using the regular EFT, like Flames says.
