Ok I have a dumb question. My husband booked his ticket from Cairo to Chicago with a layover in New York. Now does he go immigration in New York or Chicago and if he goes through Immigration in New York about how long does this take; because he only has a three hour layover? :help:

He goes through immigration in New York, immediately after getting off of the plane. In general, I would say that three hours may be cutting it really close, especially if he lands during a busy time. Here are the reviews for JFK, which seem to indicate that the wait time often is not very long.

Hello,

I was at JFK on 29th of May waiting for my finace. His flight arrived at 3:46 PM ( I believe the Cario flight came in earlier).

He called me when he was still on plane, I did not see him exit out till 5:40 PM.

Please note that on that day, there were like 5 flights arrived from Dubai, Cario, India, London, Amman and some Turkey.

As you can see having all these flights at same time during a busy holiday week took longer time for him.

He did not wait long time after he spoke to the immigration officer, but he mention the line on visitor was way too long, and so many people with kids which made that wait longer.

Once your husband is out from the gate, he can hand his luggage to the next airline, and then go up escalator to take the air train to next destination.

I am not sure which airline you are taking, but the Delta airline was horrible, I would never fly on them any more.

I hope this helps

It really depends on the day and time whether or not 3 hours is enough. My husband came into the US through JFK with a 3 hour layover and he had plenty of time. When he went home for a visit the first time, it took him a lot longer to get through customs than when he first arrived in the US. I believe it only took him about 15-20 mins the first time. The second time it took several hours.

I hope that your husband has an easy time through customs and he finishes quickly.

I talked to Ahmed tonight and he gave me some more information on his flight. It arrives in New York at 0635 in the morning on the 14th. Then his flight to Chicago is departs at 0915 from JFK. That is only 2 hour and 40 minutes for him to get through immigration and catch his connecting flight. Inchaalah, since his flight is earlier in the day, I hoping he get through quickly.

I think its delta .It will take off at 1:10 Am Egy time and it will arrive at 6:35 Am USA time .

I guess he has enough time cause JFK it wont be busy at that time of the early morning .

Once you land and get off the plane and go to the customs line, tell them you have a connecting flight and they will put you through quicker. Delta is really good to help you with this!

Holly just tell your husband to tell everyone that he comes to while waiting for immigration, they will take mercy on him and get thim through quicker!

Good luck to him and you too HG!!

My husband did that exact same flight and connection in December, and we definitely missed our connecting flight (I arrived at JFK on a different flight, but we were flying to Charlotte together). They kept him for several hours because he didn't have cash in his wallet. Stupid!
