Oh no, I knew I shouldn't have looked at this thread. Now I want poutine.

Wait, sprailenes, you mentioned mushroom caps. Don't tell me those are a rarity in the USA. Oh no, what am I getting myself into? :P

I just had lunch and you're making me hungry already.

I've only ever had poutine once. It wasn't that great either. Guess I should try it at an authentic place.

Never had cheese curds either.

Maybe I'm secretly not Canadian.

But, you were even IN Montreal at one point! :P

I took advantage of my day in Montreal when I went for my interview, to hunt down a good poutine I grabbed lunch at a place like 2 blocks from the embassy called Brisket Montreal, they had like 20 diffrent poutines on the menu, I wish I was there longer, I would have went back for the montreal smoked meat sandwiches, it smelled so good.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

BLASPHEMER!!!

I took advantage in Montreal as well. Here's the hubby having a chicken poutine (YOU HEARD ME... IT WAS GLORIOUS), the night before my interview. If y'all recall, he's actually Canadian as well (dual citizen), and had been in the US for over a year and a 1/2 at that point, other than brief visits... he loves him some poutine, and really missed it. I think he cried when we ate there.

Cdn taxpayers money at work: CP 140 Aurora pilots require soo many flight hrs each month to stay current, so why not fly to Quebec! Land, send out a crew member to pick up curds, lol Fly back home!! Training does get completed as well, so its not waisting $$$, but its very important that the cheese gets picked up,lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I wonder if the idea of a "chip stand" would fly here.

I bet it would! And if I am ever in the area, you know I would come by!

I'd love to open a Timmies here in Houston, they really don't have any equivalent. I just couldn't figure out the logistics - shipping would kill me. wacko.gif

My supervisor was just telling me about these awesome stands that sell french fries in a little tray with a plastic pointy fork in the Netherlands. I was like wow, yeah, a chip stand? We have those in Canada. Her mind was blown. Then I told her about poutine and it was blown even more. Silly Americans :P

I'm basically starving right now. I can deal with conversation, but all the visual aids in this thread just put me over the edge...

I'll join you! We'll start a chain! We shall become chip wagon magnates! Or was that magnets? :hehe:

also I have never tried poutine and never really heard of it till I joined VJ ..

That's because you lived so far away from Quebec!
