Who is in Charge of the US Embassy in Bogota?

I would like to know if anyone here knows who is in chrage of US Embassy in Bogota. I'd like to write a letter to him or her to express my concerns about the difficulty with getting answers to questions and the problems we have experienced with Banco Helm and at the office of for the medical examinations.

I know I'm just one person but I hope to contact the right person in an attempt to get them to address some of their issues and correct flawed processes.

good luck, I have a letter they wrote to my Senator about my case. The embassy never gave us one answer to any problem we had questions about. The vice consul wrote only facts about the interview. We questioned about the bank and he only copied the instructions from the website. I hope you have better answers than I did. I was able to let the embassy realize my Senator would go to bat for us if necessary. It must have helped. We have our visa. Best of luck . You have found some good information. Thanks

So, if I'm waiting on the NOA2 and dealing w/ Bogota sometime in the (hopefully near) future, what do I need to know about?

The main problem we had was with paying the visa fee at the Banco Helm in Barranquilla. We had to make about 4 or 5 trips to get everything taken care of... Also the receptionist at he Dr's office lost the pink recipt we were given after paying the $460,000 COP difference and had to make yet another trip to Banco help here in Bogota.

We went to the Banco Helm office located at:

Cipres Plaza in Carrera 30

The shopping center is green in color an has a Banco Helm office with a special section for paying US Visas. The women there were very helpful an was able to get us a copy of the receipt.

$ wise, what does the whole process cost? In addition to the $455 to file the original paperwork/app.

You mentioned 460,000 COP for medical (so about $230 usd), so what else is to be expected? Additional fees @ the embassy, etc.?

You probably wont have to deal with the supplemental fee because it was introduced after we paid the $131. The fee was raised to $350 on June 4th and we paid the $131 on May 6th.

You could possibly face vaccination fees at the medical exam if your fiancee doesnt have them documented. I'll get you a list of the vaccines she had but off the top of my head they are:

Mumps Measles Rubella

Valicera

DPT or Tetanus (Could be the same)

Yellow Fever

Just bought a ticket to head down next month But I'm very afraid of the weather in Cartagena / Santa Marta in the middle of summer.

Vanessa & I spent the better part of a week in Cartagena at the beginning of August last year and while quite hot, it was not at all unpleasant. The beach is lovely and the weather was windy enough then to help cool things down just a bit. And you can rent a shaded canopy & chairs on the beach for very little for the whole day if you need it. If you are hopelessly white like me, use a lot of high factor sunblock, and you'll be OK. And if you are at all into history, do not miss the opportunity to visit the old Spanish fort, and to explore all around the Old City. All in all a great place to visit. Only did a few hours in Santa Marta off of a cruise ship, but it looked to be a fun place too. Most importantly, you will have each other, which should make any place seem like Heaven to you.
