Hi Everyone! I have everyone beat. My wife came on the 15th of May and to date, no SS card, no welcome letter, and no GC.

Still no SSN for hubby...we went to the SSN office on Tuesday and they said he's not even in the system yet. His POE is June 14...The lady there won't even take the application...she said we have to wait till the end of the week...

So I guess we are heading to the SSN office again on Monday...so frustrated.

Finally we went to the Social Security office and applied for a SSN as hubby is still not in the system yet. The lady there said we should receive his number within 2 weeks. Now I'm wondering how long should we wait till we contact someone at USCIS for his green card....still no welcome letter yet.

Got my second Welcome Letter today, hopefully I'll get my GC according to Sachis timeline, which means I'll have it thursday/friday!

suggest you apply for SSN in VISA name, initially. then, after you're married, have it changed to any name you want.

But - pay attention (since yer a K-1 visa holder) - you have a 'window' for which to apply, initially -

from Day 14 to Day 74 past yer POE date.

Prior to Day 14? Good chance yer not in the SAVE database yet. SSA clerk won't find you, play the 'give us 30 days for DHS/USCIS electronic verification' game - which will delay any processing. Delay is bad - Delay sucks.

For the record, when we applied for L's SSN today, the SSA manager said that it's 10 calendar days after POE, not 10 business days.

They also seemed to know the intricate details of the K1, because L was granted a work-eligible SSN card (as per SSA policy), and a note that he needs to get his EAD or GC before working. Not sure what the point of a work-eligible SSN card without EAD/GC is beyond not having to order a new card after it's granted.

(The clerk wasn't, however, capable of spelling his name correctly without getting said manager... I laughed inside, and then I cried. And abused the attention I had of the manager by asking all the nitty gritty questions I always wanted to know.)

Finally received hubby's social security card yesterday the 19th of July.

Some have mentioned here that the NOA2 notice contains the future immigrant's A# (green card number). However I looked on both the front and the back of my NOA2 and do not see any 8-digit number for my beneficiary (wife).

I looked on my courtesy copy of the NOA2 and also the official copy sent to my lawyer and nothing like this is mentioned.

I am the petitioner and US Citizen, and my former A# is present and written directly above my name on the NOA2. However there is no other 8-digit number mentioned anywhere (for my wife, the intending immigrant).

I wouldn't mind checking again if someone can point out precisely where on the NOA2 to look.
