Probably best to wait a week or two so that all the 'systems sync up.'

I have NOTHING so far. I called USCIS and they said 'card production has definitely NOT been ordered.' So no welcome letter.I feel an INFOPass coming on. I'm so sick and frustrated of this entire process.

Still waiting for my SS card. Will call again at the end of this week.

YUK. Wonder what the slowdown is all about, at USCIS ? grrr.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

No friggin' idea. The guy said to wait another 2 weeks and schedule an INFOPASS.

He said it was definitely weird because the 'welcome letters' go out in 3-4 weeks. He said that there's a possibility that the airport hasn't sent them the packages yet.

GRR. :diablo:

We're 3 hours away from the local field office so hopefully, something will be in the mail soon.

For me the GC came one week after I received the welcome letter. The GC has a new look and its now actually Green in color. It used to be white before.

Sachi I am sure you will have yours in a week's time. If not an info pass seems reasonable.

We still don't have our SSN number. My wife has a interview next Monday. Hope she will get it before that.

Ooh! That's news to me! Fun!

Hopefully, it'll come soon. I start my job next week (thankfully, I had a prior SSN) so I don't know when I'll have time to go in for an INFOPASS.

Today is exactly five weeks since POE.

I will make another round of calls tomorrow/Monday. See if they can tell me what's up.

I finally received the Welcome Letter on 06/28. It was dated 06/22.

Card production ordered on 7/1 -- so I'm expecting it in the mail next week.

My SS card was mailed out on 6/29 -- so that should be coming shortly as well.

Good that at least there's some green light at the other end.

We were told that hubby should receive his Social Security card by July 5th. But thinking that we still didn't receive anything yet, no welcome letter neither, we might just stop by the SSN office on the 6th to make sure his number has been assigned....so frustrating...

Is there a link b/w the two--I guess the SSA has to verify the A# with DHS, and now if USCIS has no record of me in the system, they can't issue the card either?

ARGH. Is there anything I can do or should be doing? Apart wait and be on hold? Any thoughts?

YUP - it's called the 'SAVE DATABASE'. I refer to it often, on SSN-related questions. CBP hands the file over to DHS at POE, DHS is supposed to do some manual data entry into the SAVE database, showing that you arrived on such n such status, and then any SSA employee will look you up in the SAVE DATABASE at a SSA office.

If you truly have concerns (still) that is some problem on your casefile - the CBP people are reachable - 2 ways -

1 - the POE office itself - get a supervisor, ask what the @#$@K happened to yer casefile after you handed it over to CBP staffer and

2 - CBP secondary inspection point - usually is one closeby to you - can go in person, inquire just where the @#$@K is yer casefile, they can look you up in their system.

Now, I've not read yer stuff past this one post from the 18th, so if you got it all sussed out by now, ignore me, ah ?

Yup. I was able to get through O'Hare CBP. They looked me up in their system and said everything was A-Okay. They also said that the POE file had been mailed out to DHS the very next day itself (05/21).

Then I spoke to an actual officer at USCIS and they said that they'd received the file on June 7.

I then received the Welcome Letter dated June 22 on June 28.

I called SS last Friday. The lady said she could see the request I made on June 4 and said it had been mailed out on June 29.

Thanks for all your help, Darnell.

Hey guys! I need your help!

I want to apply for my SSN in my married name. I got married today, i want to go to the SSN office next tuesday, apply in my maiden name. When i'll have the marriage certificate, i'll go back again to change the name.. But i noticed on the marriage license it's my maiden name written on it so i guess it's gonna be my maiden name on the marriage certificate, is it normal? Can i do a name change on the SSN if my married name is not even showed anywhere? Thanks in advance!! :)

suggest you apply for SSN in VISA name, initially. then, after you're married, have it changed to any name you want.

But - pay attention (since yer a K-1 visa holder) - you have a 'window' for which to apply, initially -

from Day 14 to Day 74 past yer POE date.

Prior to Day 14? Good chance yer not in the SAVE database yet. SSA clerk won't find you, play the 'give us 30 days for DHS/USCIS electronic verification' game - which will delay any processing. Delay is bad - Delay sucks.

After Day 74 ? Yer not eligible again until you have EAD or GC in hand.
